1. No, this is not the place for such details.
:o Huh? So why then...On http://www.xyplorer.com/tour/index.php?page=catalog, I see this: "All catalog data are saved in a small file called catalog.dat and is ready for take-away." and on http://www.xyplorer.com/tour/index.php?page=cks, I see this: "The shortcuts are saved in a small binary file called ks.dat that you can travel with. "...so why shouldn't tag.dat get the same treatment?

Those are just two examples from XY site of what I meant...

2. No, they are retained in all cases.
Ok...so I didn't quite say it fully correctly either but I was referring to a couple of cases, such as move, where a "non-tag does NOT overwrite old tag: old tag stays", so while the tag status of the overwitten item is retained, the status of the replacing item is lost, ok?

And while you do't explicitly say "Copy" in the "with file operations (e.g. move or rename).", it can be inferred via the "e.g" that it does include that, and since copy doesn't retain tags (right?), then this is in conflict with the 'retained in all cases'....adding a "as logically appropriate" could maybe be enough.
1. That's tour, not whatsnew. They have different level of detail.
2. They are retained on Copy as well. They are just no new tags added to the DB to auto-tag the targets of the copy operation.

AH! Sorry! Didn't notice that.

Ok...now I see where the difference in understanding comes in...you're saying the original file retains the tag, which is true, but to me, retains also applies to the copy...see? Sort of like Vers/EXIF/etc...So that's why just adding those few words would handle these cases nicely, IMHO.

Okay, I think the best would be to remove the whole retain stuff from woznu. It's the expected behavior anyway, so why mention it.

i've started using tags last week and i really like it.
however, i think there should be more coloring options.
name and whole row don't work well with color filters and selections, and they make the list look like a rainbow some times.
and the tag column takes some precious space on my 1024x768 screen.
IMO, the best way to easily see the tags without those problems would be an option to apply the color to the line number column, since it's already there (at least for me) and selections/color filters have no effect on it.

p.s.: sorry if there's already a post about this, but i'm in a hurry.

Did you try the "Symbol" coloring scheme on Tag Column ? Using that you can reduce the Tag column to a very minimum, doesn't eat much space and still makes things easy to notice/work with (including right-click to set tags)

Plus you can sort by tags!
