Yep, you'll get my next attempt tomorrow...

This is by design. It's only the case when the Catalog is near the divider. The Catalog width has priority over the tree width.

So how come it does NOT happen when I have dual panes in the middle? The tree is left alone in my case. Not complaining, on the contrary. I don't want it to happen like it grindax' shot.
Just wondering, what's the rationale behind it? Why would a navigation pane on one end of the screen have "priority" over a nav-pane on the opposite end? They're not competing for space, each being at the other end of the available screen real estate.

I find that it feels very unnatural and non-intuitive. I find it's easier to resize when the divider I drag adjusts the size between the two things immediately to either side of it.
The idea is that it is likely (IMO) that the Catalog has one fixed optimal size, whereas you more often want to resize the Tree.

Generally when you drag a divider that touches the Catalog then the Catalog will be resized. Else the Catalog width is preserved as much as possible.
I don't see a relation to dual panes. Maybe I did not understand the question.

Forget my dual pane stuff, not important.

I am with you on that. But now I am the one who doesn't see the relation. Optimal fixed size or not - when I change the catalog width (what I think grindax intends to do on his screenshots), human volition should have priority. Why should the tree suffer at its most vulnerable spot - the far right where paths finally branch out into meaningful twigs?

When you drag this splitter then it's because at this point the list is more important to you than the tree. You see, this is still the splitter between tree and list. The catalog just happens to be squeezed in.

I fail to see that connection on grindax' shots. But I may be wrong, he better comments on that himself.
Generally speaking, I see your point and like it. From a more pragmatic point of view, however, I'd rather compromize the rightmost column of my list than the rightmost tree branches. But I admit - this depends largely on circumstance and personal preference.

Yes, I understood that, but I see it differently.

Usually I wait for the formal version update but ran the beta 14.10.0111 portable.
I realize it's still a work in progress but thanks very much for adding the ability to have the Tree and especially the Catalog on the right side of the window.
A number of times I wanted to request this capability but didn't for fear of making the file manager gods angry
I'm not sure if it's a right hand/left hand (brain) thing, it just seems easier to navigate now.
Thanks again. I hope it is a keeper.

So that's the reason this suggestion didn't find more support when I signed up for it a year ago - fearing the wrath of the almighty godfather who runs this show.

Makes me wonder if this applies to other blasphemous wishes as well? Like full zip support in list views?
