He, gals (Mesh, j_c, eurytos). Thanks for participating in my little experiment. I wanted to check the substance of Albert Einstein's famous quote: "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."
I think we all can be sure now about the second part (the human stupidity) because you all here proved that Einstein is indeed right.
I chose a board member (yeah, good old Meshy) which always holds up tolerance and reasonable arguing and in fact behaves diametrically opposite. Just read his posts carefully and all you see is a self-pleased and arrogant snob.
And then I started to be a little bit provocative. Yeah, it apparently worked. Some little nonsense here, a litte there. And what did Meshy-boy? He answered with even more rubbish and crap.
And finally j_c and his compliment for Meshy's self-control and patience. Really touching, h_c. And even better Meshy's replication, that such strength of character must be - if not inherent - the outcome of a person, who has led a exemplary life.
Come on, are you really such chadbands in real life too, or just here in the forum. A little advice: Don't forget to clean your noses, guys, because to brown-nose can leave unappetizing tracks on them.
So, thank you again for the spectacle, it was exquisite.

@thebadbadwolf:
Ouch!
Well no shock here with regards to j_c.
He repeatedly almost trips over himself just to compliment anyone who agrees with whatever his position may be.
A review of his often long-winded posts will prove this as fact.
Cheers!

I'm still with you Mesh and agree completely when you want to go back to business here and stop that unprofessional chatter about the various attributes of human beings, which wastes not only the time of the ones involved in the discussion, but also of all the other members who tend to read all posts.
I'd prefer, if everybody would stick to the main goal of this forum - to help making XY even better than it already is, Not the forum members themselves

Thank you, Ralph. And while I understand what you're saying, by the same token, one doesn't put on a tuxedo to take out the trash.
That being said, I'm ready to go back to discussing XY right now. The only question is whether anyone has any issues or suggestions regarding the current state of the proposal specs. If everyone is generally happy with it, then we wait for Don's input.

I make it a practice to try and never reply to personal attacks, but in this case, I'll make one exception, because: If you only knew what a challenge it is for me to reply at all based on current health conditions, you'd know just how much that hurt me...

And there certainly is no "Cheers" in that!
Just to let other XY's here know: I've got almost no sight in one eye for now, and that makes doing anything quite difficult, so making long-winded posts is quite impossible!
Now back to the real challenge: How to make
XY the
best-selling file manager on the market!
going on

Hi,
I find Meshs work on this is good and it's a collection of things needed to get it started.
If development finally starts or is in progress for DP, I guess it may be that the one or other point will come to my mind, or new questions will appear, sure there will be things to add or optimize, one can't think of eveything before development started.
I will try to jump in later, for my part it does not make sense atm to go too deeply into every detail. But I sure will try to help here..
Regards, ReviewPilot

Boy

, lots of nasty stuff said here. As far as I know if a user is being overly pushy about something unimportant then that post is simply ignored by Don and likes. I am sure Don is not the one who will code something if it does not make sense.
On a side note, ofourse we all have personal opinions (therefore right of free speech) but sometimes its best not to express it in public.
Truce.

Instead of tacking on DP, given the fact that multiple running copies of XY work quite well together you could also make running two copies easier.
How about allowing two copies to tile horizontally or vertically.
That way it would appear like it's DP but it's really two separate instances.
That would also help some of your threading problems too.
DP with each pane having both tree and list views already exist; XY2 would look similarly, I suppose.

Good news!! something like that already exists. See
here.

Boy, are you people clueless..
I am not talking about some stupid macro, I am talking about having a parent application to launch and
manage separate XY instances.
Click the copy-arrow on the parent will copy from the on-focus XY instance to the other, or clicking sort-name on the parent will sort BOTH instances.
Now THAT would be cool, not this lame DP BS; that is just so old skool.
Well, whatever.
I wasted enough of my time already.
Good luck.

maybe your right. I guess it's a question of how fine it really would get implemented..
Concerning DP in my usecase again:
I currently sit here (I sit here most of my day, shameon me lol), and try to build a new folder structure and moving several parts from one drive to the newly created network folders.
The most annoying thing is really that I'd like one Pane open with the source drive/folders, the other pane with the goal folder to be copied to.
As this structuring and copying/moving will take more than an hour (I'm also brainstorming how the folderstructure has to look besides), it is not good to switch tabs, so here's the case where parallel folders are needed, where I at all time can see both folders contents/structure..
Switching tabs will not allow me to visualize the folderstructure in my head, and I also would have to remember the files I have already copied there...
the 2nd annoying point currently is what I just asked in another thread- every time I switch tabs to the goal folder, the left side of XY (how did u call it?) scrolls all the way down to the network server.
If I'd like to use the tree list now on local drives, maybe accessing a local folder, I'd have to scroll all way up again.....

Try to disable "Auto-Synch Tree" in menu View?

Currently I'm trying to check what content and folderstructure a DVD has compared to a part of a serverstructure of ours.
very stupid doin so always switching tabs.
ok I have 2 XY's open now. 2 things come to my mind.
1) if I close the wrong XY first, the next time I open Xy it will load the wrong folders.
2) if i move with mouse over one XY, and try to scroll the mousewheel to navigate in the tree, itwon't work as the XY first has to be made active.
Thats one special feature which has to work on DPs.
Just like if i move the mouse over tree or list view.
cheers RP

That doesn't directly apply here, as closing XY while in DP mode will simply mean that when you next start up XY, each pane will come back to the same directories they were in before.
The closest analogy would be when you flip from dual to single mode, the active pane is the one that would be retained. And the issue of what the second pane comes back as when you next go into dual mode is already addressed in the current proposal.

Well, at the moment, scroll wheels work based on where the cursor is hovering. If the cursor is over the file list pane, then that's what scrolls. And if it's over the tree, than the tree is what scrolls. I would imagine that it would work the same way with the second pane.
I've edited the proposal to reflect this detail.
