For once, it's done in a totally different way technically. But that should not concern you as a user.

Try the following to see the difference: rename any folder that's visible in the tree but not the current XY folder using another app (eg Explorer or another XY instance). If "watch folders elsewhere" is checked, XY should immediately update that folder; else you have to press F4.

Another example: I have a USB stick. When I plug it in XY immediately adds the drive to the tree when "watch removable drives elsewhere" is checked.

I see it's confusing and that reminds me that originally I planned to remove these "elsewhere" options (having them hard-set to "enabled" internally) because who needs these options anyway? Any objections?

"Watch .... " options: watch non-current paths.
I found the Beta notice where you introduced this, and I'm still not clear on exactly the difference.

First, I assume that you are allowing removable drives and network drives to not be watched in case people have reasons to treat them differently.

However, I'm not sure what you mean by "elsewhere".

Suppose, I have 3 tabs, and a tree at the left.

If I have Auto-Refresh checked, the what is the difference between selected and elsewhere ?

Do I no longer need to use F4 if I have Auto-Refresh ?

Was that removed in a recent change ?
Not removed but hidden:

Code: Select all

v4.20.0060 - 23.11.05 12:01
+ Here's a new INI file trick (aka hidden feature):
        [Settings]
        FileOpProgressModeless=1
If FileOpProgressModeless=1 then the file operation progress
window is shown modeless. Which effectively means that you can
go on working while files are being moved or copied in the
      background.
Note however that when file operations were triggered by
drag'n'drop the source window is usually blocked until the
      operation is finished.
Note also that a modeless progress window can easily get lost
      behind larger windows.
"Watch .... " options: watch non-current paths.

Yes, the only point against it was the sound, which is identical to "Explorer". So when talking about it and comparing it to Explorer it would get quite confusing. (already discussed here: http://www.xyplorer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3618#3618)

Modeless copying vanished ?

Post by The_Dude »

Hi!

I changed from TrackerV3 to XYplorer and copied my .ini file to the new folder.

However, there were a couple of changes - I had to re-enable "Auto Refresh on file system changes" in the options (by the way, what do the "Watch .... " options underneath that option mean ? - they are not in the documentation), and I could not find any place to re-enable Modeless Copying.

Was that removed in a recent change ?

PS I would have thought that "YXplorer" would have been better - it would also have been a comment on the program it replaces ! ("Why Explorer ?") :D

:!: Note: I have very little time at the moment. All your posts are read and will be answered, but a bit slower than usual...

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v4.40.0033, 05-jan-2006).

Code: Select all

v4.40.0033 - 05.01.06 15:29
! Crash on encountering an empty or unknown-sized drive (eg Audio
      CD) when listing MyComputer. Fixed.
+ Menu Go: added command "Clear History" (yep, it clears the history).
    * Tree and List: better vertical alignment of text and icons with
      oversized tree and list fonts.
! Menu View, Font..: font dialog was not properly reinitialized to
the current font after user cancelled a previous font dialog. Fixed.

Menu "Go | Go to..." if you're a mouse user or shortcut is Ctrl+G, should do what you want I think.

Can I have an address line - line IE?

Post by eaj »

Hi,

I just registered XYplorer. I like it a lot, but there's something I miss: An address line where I can just type in (or copy/paste) a path, like in IE or in Windows Explorer and then it just "goes" to this path.

I frequently copy/past paths and then I would like to explore them quickly with XYplorer without having to slowly navigate to them folder by folder.

I can't find that option in XYplorer. Is it not available or is it me who just doesn't find where it is?

If it's not available, could you add it to the program? I would really appreciate it.

No more slow deletes

Post by surrender »

Sorry to all for blaming the XYplorer for slow deletes. it was apparently a problem with my hard disk which had loads of bad sectors and was eventually damaged. All fine on my new hard disk.

I surrender.

Hmm. Obviously folders are not connected to Explorer as associated app on your system.
