Change Log for the latest
XYplorer BETA version:
Code: Select all
v16.00.0232 - 2015-12-04 13:57
! Preview 2.0: Crash related to PDF previews. Fix #4. You should not get a
crash anymore while XY is running. This is achieved by avoiding to unload
the preview handler while XY is running (for some reason it crashed only
after unloading the handler). And, BTW, the crash only happens if XY it
*not* the foreground window.
However, there is still a chance that XY crashes on app exit (especially
if you use Adobe's preview handler) if you have previewed at least one PDF
during the session. There is no risk of data loss, but XY might not fully
unload, it will just become invisible and get stuck in memory. The only
way to fully exit it is to kill the process via Task Manager.
This is very unpleasant, of course, and one day a solution will turn up.
For now, I will add the option to use the old way to preview PDFs (namely
through the browser component).
* Configuration | Previewed Formats | Category: Split category "Web & Office
files" in two separate categories.
- Office Files: Previewed using registered preview handlers
- Web Files: Previewed using ActiveX in Browser component)
This gives you more and clearer options.
Tip: If you suffer from using Adobe for PDF previewing you can escape the
crashes that typically come with Adobe by adding "pdf" to the Web Files
category and unticking "pdf" in the "Office Files" category.
+ Preview 2.0 | Step 1b: You now should get a preview for exotic streaming
media in the Preview tab, i.e. for those media that XY cannot handle
natively but for which a preview handler is registered. On my system this
is e.g. *.mid (MIDI file).
Unfortunately, this feature works against the above crash fix, since a streaming
preview *must* be completely unloaded (else the sound is playing on and on),
which is exactly the condition for the crash. So when you preview a PDF,
and then preview a media file (both using Preview 2.0), and then end the
media preview by unselecting the file, then you will probably get a crash
within the next minutes.

Note that BETA versions are work in progress and might contain fresh bugs. You have been warned.
It's a good idea to backup your complete XYplorer settings (menu File | Settings Special | Backup Application Data Folder...)
before running a new BETA version. This will also help in fixing any fresh bugs.
