PDF Preview
Hi
I am running XYPlorer on Windows 8 and using PDF XChange Editor to view PDF files
I think that I did something to change PDF preview because now I just see text commands
instead of a preview
This happened a few years ago and I believe that the solution was:
Un-check Configuration / Previewed Formats / Category / Web & office files / *.pdf
I did this and restarted XYPlorer but I still see text instead of PDF preview

Re: PDF Preview
hi,
are you talking about the floating preview or the one in the info panel?

Re: PDF Preview
Did you try to re-install "PDF XChange" (Editor or Viewer - dunno if it makes a difference)?

Re: PDF Preview
Config > Previewed Formats > Text files > Uncheck .pdf
esides, XY Preview use Internet Explorer preview, so, if you can view .pdf in IE, then you can view in XY too.

Re: PDF Preview
When I un-check PDF in Text files in Previewed Formats then the info panel and floating preview are both blank
with no text showing.
The info panel preview has the following message:
File type excluded in configuration
When I click the Preview Now button, it sends the file to PDF Exchange Editor where it is opened
When I select a file and click Floating Preview, the info panel has the following message: Shell failed to decode
When I select an online PDF file with Internet Explorer 11 (not my default browser), it sends it immediately to PDF Exchange Editor
where it is opened
with no text showing.

Re: PDF Preview
Now, it's clear.
You unticked .pdf in both Text and "Web &Office" category, then you see this message: File type excluded in configuration
PDF Exchange Editor is set as PDF preview handler but does not support IE => When I click the Preview Now button, it sends the file to PDF Exchange Editor where it is opened
When I select an online PDF file with Internet Explorer 11 (not my default browser), it sends it immediately to PDF Exchange Editor
Solution: Choose another PDF handler

Re: PDF Preview
Can I specify another PDF handler for XYPlorer only or are you saying that I would have to
set the Windows default viewer to something else?
I did change from PDF Xchange Viewer to PDF Exchange Editor around the time that preview stopped working

Re: PDF Preview
Hi
I'm still fighting the PDF preview issue
I downloaded and installed the Adobe Reader and made it the default viewer for PDF
but XYplorer still wouldn't preview PDF files
So I uninstalled XYP and installed the latest version
I guess not everything uninstalled because the mini-tree looks the same as it did before I uninstalled XYP
However some things changed
I still can't preview PDF files
Folders don't look different from files
Shift select does not work to select a group of files
The Column positions changed so that path in first instead of file name
I assume that this is changeable

Re: PDF Preview
There's usually no need to uninstall/install XYP since it is portable, i.e. no registry changes unless you made it your standard explorer replacement.
Have you tried whether it works in a fresh (factory defaults) installation of XYP?
To do so just enter ::fresh in the addressbar, which opens a new instance of XYP with factory default settings.

Thanks
The fresh copy seems to have solved my issues
Do I have to do something to use the fresh version instead of the version that I have been using?

Re: PDF Preview
Am using Tracker's PDF X-Change Viewer and have had a similar problem for a long time. Namely, the PDF displays fine in Info Panel but not in Floating Display. Invoking a new copy with ::fresh, Floating Preview brings up PDF perfectly. Damn peculiar.
(Sidebar - since when is ::fresh possible? Don't remember seeing that trick previously. Insidiously clever for trouble shooting. Immediately put it in Permanent Section of Address Bar and Go To.)

Re: PDF Preview
Checking your issue in a fresh installation is only to identify whether your settings may be the reaon for the problem, which in this case they probably are.Stabilizer wrote:Do I have to do something to use the fresh version instead of the version that I have been using?
With hundreds of settings users are usually quite attached to their ini files and don't wanna loose all the work they put in configuring XYP.
So the next step would be to find the settings that cause your problem and change only those which might take a bit of trial and error work
or, if your happy to start from scratch, delete your XYP folder, install a fresh copy and start configuring it from there again.
