I really like XYplorer. It is great and you constantly add features and improve the program.
There is one feature that that is available in Windows Explorer (Win7) that I consider very important and miss. It is the ability to see a portable media player. I have a Samsung phone (GT-S7562) that Windows Explorer can see and access all of the phone's memories as portable media players. XYplorer can't even see my phone when connected by USB. My opinion is that this more useful than some of the more minor and more obscure features that have been added recently. Please consider adding this feature.
Portable Media Player
Re: Portable Media Player
There are already dozen of threads that demand the same. Don is aware of it and he'll implement it (probably) in the near future.
Sorry, but I'll lock this thread now. Please use the search function next time...

search engine-no result "portable media player"
Highend: I started a topic because a search for Portable Media Player gave ZERO results for those dozens of previous topics.
Re: Portable Media Player
The latest thread about this was posted yesterday: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10827
It was also recently discussed in this thread as Don was attempting to investigate it further.
It is on the roadmap as "Support for Non-Drive Devices" - note that the roadmap is not in any particular order.
The results for searching for "portable media player" should have also led you to this older thread but it's not particularly useful, and doesn't help to identify that this should be part of "Support for Non-Drive Devices".
Hope that helps!

Re: Portable Media Player
Headline: A search for portable media player only yielded the 4 results that were just posted. No idea why the others don't show up. May I ask why the strong attitude? Doesn't seem to be in the best interest of XYplorer. Sorry if I am bothering you.

Re: Portable Media Player
Hi and welcome to the club,
Sorry about that. Sometimes the moderators are not so moderate. Lack of coffee? Too much of it? Pre-Xmas stress?
I understand your question completely. I'm getting emails on this topic every day. I'm fully aware of the issue. It costs me money. It needs to be fixed. But I first have to get some other things done.

I'm far from justify the moderators' "non-moderateness", but I'll try to explain their reaction: they see every day (literally, every day) at least one topic like this one asking for/about support for non-disk devices (media players, smartphones and so on).
And the answer is invariably the same - it couldn't be any different.
Such support is planned soon, for the next year. Santa will bring Don a new computer with Win 8.1, which will be the new and default development and testing platform and which will give Don the ability to finally code XY so to support such devices too.

Re: Portable Media Player
It was Headend's attitude that was disturbing. ("search for it" and "enough") Followed by locking the topic after being reprimanded. My first thoughts for a reply would probably resulted in him banning me.
Actually I did do a search and there weren't any results for portable media player. How was I to know it has been address frequently after no results to the search. A review of several pages of posts didn't seem to include an obvious solution. I just signed up for the forum and it isn't like I am a regular and know the history and the associations of similar problems and questions. It seemed simple as it was showing in Windows Explorer and the complexity of the resolution wasn't obvious.
I would suggest that a simplified pinned topic of known problems and planned resolutions or the inability to resolve the problems would be useful.
Thanks to theQwerty and Don.

Re: Portable Media Player
And that was how I as a fellow moderator viewed the reaction...though I also thought locking thread was just a bit extreme based on how new this user was to forum...I'd have been a bit more tolerant but DO agree that a better search using similar terms would have gotten desired results thus avoiding topic creation...thus, I'd highly suggest that users not only use what they presume may be the perfect terms but also using some alternate terms...that's why I've had good results because I try various combinations...like in this case, I'd have tried "phone", "USB", "external", etc. as possible terms.Marco wrote:I'm far from justify the moderators' "non-moderateness", but I'll try to explain their reaction: they see every day (literally, every day) at least one topic like this one asking for/about support for non-disk devices (media players, smartphones and so on).

So to dude373, I'm sorry you had a less than ideal forum experience but hope you'll bear with us because it DOES get tiring seeing constant new threads for same basic topic for us regulars as well. ok?
I was on the road last few days so haven't been as active as normal thus I didn't have chance to help out before.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

If it was intended, your attitude is also disturbing. If not, maybe you have made similar spelling mistake in searching the forum before.dude373 wrote:It was Headend's attitude that was disturbing.
