I would pay $90 (USD) for a lifetime license of XYplorer, just sayin'.
The End of the Lifetime License
Re: The End of the Lifetime License
Ofcourse, you are the creator, you can sell your product how ever you wish. I just thought an explanation would suffice for such a wonderful offer that you have brought back from the dead

And it's worth it. I will probably raise the price again in 2014. IMO XY is now clearly ahead of any competetion and the distance to the others is increasing by the week.sh4un wrote:I would pay $90 (USD) for a lifetime license of XYplorer, just sayin'.

I don't know about that, there is not 64bit versionadmin wrote:And it's worth it. I will probably raise the price again in 2014. Re: The End of the Lifetime License
Ah, that's totally overrated. 64bit is nice to have, not more.sh4un wrote:I don't know about that, there is not 64bit versionadmin wrote:And it's worth it. @all: Oh no, please don't start a discussion now, I just wanted to say something quick and funny. If you don't find it funny then don't laugh. And go away.

Re: The End of the Lifetime License
sh4un,
With due respect, you have the right to voice your depressive dissatifaction with the 50% offer on BitsDuJour and the lack of 64bit support.
That isn't good for your health, is it?
Only one simple question: Does the 32-bit XY satisfy all your daily needs and more for many years to come?
Perhaps you have the best investment ever in your lifetime. Be honest to yourself. Be fair to yourself.
Think positive!
Instead on focusing on dollars and cents, why don't you propose more useful XY features?
Thanks for your kindest understanding.

Re: The End of the Lifetime License
64b is the future and you can't deny...why do the other files manager have 64b? must be a reason.. Just sayin'
XYplorer is *one* great investment I have made, there are many great softwares out there.

Re: The End of the Lifetime License
XY is written in VB6. There's no 64bit assembly (assembly = prog to translate Don's code into machine code which the computer understand and execute) => No 64 bits XY.
Other file managers are written in languages (other than VB6) which have x64 assembly.
btw, x64 is not a magic wand. Programs written in 64bits is larger, consume more memory while whether there's speed improvement depends on how the code is optimized to utilize x64. But sticking with x32 has this problem: http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=ctx64

I'm a casual coder using AHK language. All of my xys scripts:

Re: The End of the Lifetime License
Yes, I know this already.. The solution is to reprogram in a different language... obviously not a small task, and maybe the creator doesn't care or want to do this... But still... and haha @ your comments regarding sizes of programs files and memory usage.. really.. in these days????? C'mon that is a sad excuse. Sure, 32bit is fine, but it's a PITA working with other 64b shell extensions and having to create a special folder to access the system folder, etc.... This is just plain denial at play here... Yes again, 32bit is lovely and small and compact and fast "enough." but like I said, not having a 64bit version of this particular file man, is not staying ahead of the game in the league of file managers is it.... D*S & X*2 are two outstanding competitors/alternatives that have 64 bit versions available (and there are other file mans that have 64b versions..) and btw, I have owned one of those, and tried and used both for a while, but I prefer the light footprint of XYplorer...binocular222 wrote:XY is written in VB6. "Future: A 64-bit version of XYplorer is planned." Yes, this has been here for a few years now. It would be nice to hear how much of the plan has been planned so far if you know what I'm saying...

@ sh4un
Yes I completely understand and do agree with what you said. I very much would also LOVE to have a 64bit version of XYplorer. I even have a license for xplorer2 and use Q-Dir on the side and these two support 64Bit shell extensions magnificently. Even Directory Opus is awesome and it feels very native to the system (beter than xplorer2 in my opinion) and yet also fast. But yeah, having a 64Bit version for some reason, make XYplorer sounds modern haha.
However, there are several issues from what I see. First, XYplorer is already extremely developed and what I meant is that it has been programmed and improved for over 10 years. That's a lot of code. Yes Don should have programmed it in a more future proof language but what's been done is done. The major issues now is that even though XYplorer is excellent, it still needs improvement, bug fixing, and fullfilling customers request. As a result, Don can't simply just "hey, I'm going to stop developing XYplorer in VB6 and start over from scratch in {enter programming language here} so hasta la vista baby and see you in {days, months, years, decades}". You probably already noticed but did you see how active Don is here trying to fix all bugs people report as well as adding new features that they want? If XYplorer was a program that has been developed for a couple years, then it's "easier" but for over 10 years? Not so much. Just imagine that for some reason, C++ became obsolete. To support these new computers, xplorer2, Directory Opus, Photoshop, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and more will have to be rewritten. That would completely suck. Especially for 1 man development team programs like XYplorer, xplorer2, and Directory Opus. For software with large teams, it's easier but it would still suck.
So the options now are rely on a third party program that hooks up with XYplorer to provide 64Bit shell extension capability. I think this is a work in progress right now since I remember reading about it somewhere here... And hope that someone is able to program a 64Bit compiler for VB6. Don't know anything about this but Don said so.
So basically, you're suggest Don to make a 64Bit version of XYplorer. But have you thought of any solutions in how he should do that while maintaining the high level of support he provides AND living his life? It's hard I would say lol.
But yes, it would be wicked but ufortunately the situation does not look well. But like Don said, "leave the programming problems to me". I'm sure somewhere in his mind he has the "darn it, why did I trust Microsoft...?".
On a related note, Don, you programmed XYCopy in VB6 as well? Have you ever thought of programming all your "extensions" (like XYCopy) in a different language that has some added benefits. Just wondering heh.
