I just was about to post another one (Transient Color Filter, TCF) as I re-read
TheQwerty wrote:As this is just an extension of Color Filters I think it is important to continue to refer to them as such.
And let's be honest this feature is just a way to quickly and temporarily create, modify, and apply color filters with high-importance.
where I realized it's the filter which gives me some hickups.

Are those color filters really filters? IMO, they do not really filter but rather highlight items, don't they?

Instant Color Filters definitely sounds good for the ready-made filters. For the general name, how about simply Instant Visual Color Filters? Basically it's just like Visual Filters that's already there but instead is for adding instant colors to visualize them.

In terms of the ready-made filters:

Code: Select all

Folders Created Today ??
Folders This Week ??

Created In The Last 30 Mins
Modified In The Last 30 Mins
Created In The Last 3 Hours
Modified In The Last 3 Hours
Created Today
Modified Today
Created This Week
Modified This Week

Empty Files

Overlong Filenames
A year may be too long.

Same hickups here. But it's too late to rename them now. Luckily colors can be understood as filtered white light, so there is at least some justification for the word.

If users don't have Permanent variables remembered across session, it can default back to Modified.
Power Filters can be customised ever since (via List Management), and Instant Color Filters will be as well.

I think it's good to keep some initial symmetry here between Power Filters and Instant Color Filters. You can later customize them to your own needs.

I see and think the same. However, I also think that there should be a sort of a consolidation in the long run.
With the current functional power of XY I do find it sometimes yet difficult to grasp all the individual features quickly by name - especially with the filters. The more functions to be added the more I see the need to keep a clear and transparent basic terminology.

Maybe an anniversary release (V 15) could serve as a suitable opportunity to introduce this sort of refactoring? :?:

Yes, but would allow to keep the same menu without extending it and filtering what is needed. Anyways, I already have it :D

And I get to keep the VirginFilters as well

Color Filters shared by TheQwerty - http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 041#p55041
+ageM:<5 n //m|>,006000

+ageM:<2 d //m|>,A0E0A0
+ageM:<5 d //m|>,C0E0C0

This is a nice Color filter list when required, but too colorful when not required and many to enable/disable according to the need. Would it be possible to get all these filters applied with Instant Color Filters - Time Machine / History Shades

And if this is possible, the obvious next choice would be a similar color section for size. Instant color filters are still not available under List Mangement

Why? If that were true, the files that qualify would be constantly changing as ones just past 24 hrs cycle out...
but to me it makes more logical sense to have that option default to last 24 hours rather than midnight to midnight. Different people have different work/waking hours. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
Sorry, but I think it makes no logical sense...a given day only exists from 12am to 12pm...the last 24 hrs is something totally different.

I'd not object to a user time period as what qualifies but it certainly then can't be called "today" unless it's within those midnite boundaries -- so use '24 h' vs '1 d', ok?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Exactly.
Not! Days only change once every 24 hrs, not constantly...the only time that the last 24 hrs comes close to being the same as today is at 23:59:59 for that one second.

And if "today" = last 24 hrs, then "tomorrow" would have to be the next 24 hrs and you'd never reach it because you'd always be stuck on 'today'.
j_c_hallgren wrote:I'd not object to some way to define a user time period as what qualifies but it certainly then can't be called "today"
I will certainly ensure that Today = last 24 hours.
We may have to agee to disagree but there's absolutely NO way that those are even close to being the same in all but the one case I mentioned above.

Back when I worked in corporate world, I was always good at referring to 'today' as current day even when we just past midnite on late night work, so I'd switch to saying 'yesterday' at midnite when needed.
