Arrow keys to change selection?

Post by pissant »

XYplorer 5.10.0051 beta
Windows XP Pro SP2

This doesn't seem correct to me, so I posted it here.

I just noticed that for the purposes of the Info Panel, the only way to change the selected file is by clicking a file with the mouse. When the arrow keys are used, the selection is changed in the list, but the Info Panel isn't updated. This goes for the Preview and Properties tabs, for example.

Also, part of the status bar is updated when the arrow keys are used to change the selected file (specifically, the "x item(s) selected" and the size indicator). But the file name portion of the status bar is not updated, and as mentioned, the Info Panel tabs aren't updated either.

What also would be cool is when you held down the SHIFT key and arrowed through files (with the intent to delete, move, or copy a selection/block of files), it updated the preview each one, like an image editor, for example. XYplorer updates the preview when you release the SHIFT key, which is more than Directory Opus does.

It works fine for me in 5.20.0000. I must admit I didn't check in 5.10.0051.

I thought I was running the latest beta version. Turns out the script I use to automatically grab the update needed to be updated to use the new URL he started using. Anyway... I just put 5.20.000 in and it behaves the same way.

I wonder if you're trying the exact same thing I am. Have a list of more than one file, then click one and note (for example) the contents of the Info Panel's Properties tab. Use an arrow key to move to a different file, and the Propertie's tab contents don't change. I find it pretty hard to believe that it works differently for you than it does for me.

I have a folder with a few TXT files...when I have it on a tab, and use the arrow keys to move up/down to select files, the Info panel is and stays properly in sync...both for preview and properties...on 5.20 here...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

OK, now we are getting somewhere. When I try this with ASCII files, the Info Panel (and the status bar) is updated correctly. But I was originally trying it with a directory containing only AVI files.

And WTH is going on here... I just tried it on my AVI directory, and now it's working correctly. But I swear on my life, it wasn't working before.

So now it seems to be a problem where "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't--don't know why". The worst kind of problem there is.

As I mentioned, it first happened with 5.10.0051, then I switched to 5.20.0000, and the same thing happened at first... Now, it seems to work fine with both. (I say "both" because I've gone back to 5.10.0051 due to other problems.)
