Is there a poll somewhere for number of users and languages? If not there should be one.

This forum allows a maximum of 10 items per poll. So it's useless for this.

Well. it could indeed be interesting to see this. (Even better would be a number of downloads on the languages page, but this is probably impossible.) Regarding polls, one could define groups of languages, if need be.

@Don
BTW, have you noticed that you apparently have a translator into Chinese already (Wishes thread)? Maybe it would be good to move that thread in the MLS area.

And also to seriously think about some automatic transformation of the "&x"-notation of the original string into the "eastasiantranslation (&x)..." notation.

OK, created an external poll to know which XY language you use:

If a new language needs to be added let me know. Adding new entries won't reset the poll stats, so all good.
Thanks for your votes.
Edit:

I'll move this post here to keep this thread tidy.

A BIG THANKS to all translators! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Some minutes ago I published the first XYplorer version with Multilingual Support.
This would not have been possible without your work.

And this might be a good time to think about Donate buttons... :) I'm willing to add such buttons or links into the main languages table. I'm sure there are users that are happy enough to donate some amount directly to the translators. You just have to give me the links...

The first donation button is installed! Feel free to give something to the German translator. And if it's only for testing the button. :)

Note that from now on the download table on the Language page (http://www.xyplorer.com/languages.php) always offers the packages for the current official version.

There is a small link right below the table where you can switch to the table with packages matching the current BETA version.

Versions, versions, versions

Post by Borut »

Question about translations that still have a long way to go to 100%: Is it better to translate the last "official" language version further (currently 8.20), or the new "still beta" versions (8.21...).

Also, what happens (have not tried it yet) when one for instance tries to use language file version 8.21 with a program version supporting 8.20?

I'd suggest to translate the latest stable version first. Next versions won't have many new strings, compared to it.

Same here: stay with 8.20 and you will get officially published. Else only with 12.10, and who knows when this will come out.

Nothing particularly bad. It's just a not perfectly fitting version. I've made the thing very tolerant, so there will be no crashes and most of the strings will be translated.

Note to Translators

Next thing I'll add to the app is a command Download Language File.... It will offer a slick and smooth way to download and select a language file in one go. Much more comfortable than the current way which for many users turned out to be too difficult.

1. New naming convention for LNG files
For this thing to work, the language files need their MLS version in the filename. Therefore next time you upload a language pack, please name the LNG file (and the ZIP if you use ZIP) like in this example:

German_8.21.lng (if packed then in German_8.21.zip) (8.21 is the MultiLingualSupportVersion)

The ITT (next BETA version) will, of course, help you here and automatically append the current MLS version to the filename when saving.

2. Upload LNG files without zipping
Packing the LNG file in a ZIP is not necessary anymore (it actually just means more work for you and for me). I modified the forum software so that you now can attach LNG files directly.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you just added the particular extension in the ACP.
