Ok...that's good...but might there still be some who'd want to use current function as is for their own processing from clipboard? So if that ability still is possible via some method, then swapping this into that menu item is fine.
The CKS dialog can also generate the same data and puts it on the clipboard.

Not sure about naming, I actually envisioned it as more of a "List All Commands" and then the resulting dialog would have a separate execute button - making it Execute, OK, Cancel.

Until the next beta here's a small update...

I think it would be much better to read if the columns were "a bit" aligned.

It even would be much better if the first 2 columns were exchanged - i.e. command name and command number. The numbers would all be aligned on the left side, and the names would be aligned by means of the tab between number and name.
Sorry: no simple idea like this for the key combination on the right side...

Code: Select all

#100 File / To Clipboard
#101 File / To Clipboard / Item... Ctrl+P
...
#1000 Miscellaneous / General Functions / Stop Esc
...
Edit: Unbelievable! While I have written this Don already has distributed it this way  :D

One issue with the live filter..

List All Commands
Select an item any item.
Filter the list with "asdf".
Click OK.

The item you selected is executed.
While this may be "correct" it wasn't the behavior I expected.

I expected the behavior on OK to execute the selected item unless the filter causes it to be hidden.
It can still be executed if scrolled out of display, or if changing the filter brings it back into view, but to me if it's not displayed in the list it shouldn't be executed.

I'd fully agree as you may thus execute some command you don't desire to because it's unseen.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Thanks TheQwerty for providing the script file and Don for implementing the function!

Not exactly the same as in The Bat! (it's easier to distinguish different menu hierarchies
there) but quite usable :)

If you only could implement the same principle in the config window...
:P

A live list filter that shows the category | the caption + the option entry!
Selecting and "executing" takes you to at least the appropriate category page (ofc it would be so much greater
if some kind of visual sign / tooltip could mark the right option but dreaming must be possible, right?)

E.g.:
Live filter box: "hidden"

Results:
General - Items in Tree and List - Show hidden drives
General - Items in Tree and List - Show hidden files and folders

Clicking any of the two brings you to the General page.

I've spend so many hours in the config page searching for specific items...

Dreaming on....

Working on it right now. Of course I had the same idea immediately after finishing the "menu navigator".

I have to say this post opened up nice little gems. Loving the new config thingy. Why did we not think of this earlier??
As we are on this topic, I'd like to suggest something like about:config that firefox or opera (opera:config) do from addressbar. One additional advantage of opera is it uses hash tag like opera:config#setting, which is indispensable when helping fellow users/newbies when referring to a particular setting.
A similar approach in XY could be used by using jump settings' numbers on the left or Don can make his own IDs like in list commands.
E.g: Typing something like this in addressbar-
xy:config#1 to go directly to setting "2D border (Preview - Image/Video preview)" or
xy:config#253 to go to setting "Zebra striping (Colors & Styles - Styles)"

I think this will make things much much easier when helping users. No more typing go to menu Tools>Configuration>Advanced...
Your thought?

Settings have no fixed numbers. What you see in the jump list is just a serial number.

Yes, i meant using those serial numbers to use a identifiers. But those can always change as you add more settings, thats why i suggested you could number them using your convention as you do for commands.

No, I think I have done enough here. This is a file manager, not a settings manager. :P

But...before you can manage your files, you need to manage your settings...

. true its not. But you are right that currently its not that big of a deal after the new settings finder thing. I was suggesting towards an enhancement to call settings more quickly from AB. Like i mentioned before, this inspiration comes from opera where you can call all javascript related settings by typing opera:config#javascript. Its basically same as in XY where you type in your search into jump settings' filter field, except that the search term comes autofilled and autofiltered.

It may be late but it would be nice to have a couple scripting commands which allow us to open each dialog with a pre-defined filter.

I have a few scripts where I direct the user to options that might make the script work better, or differently, and it would be easier to just take them directly there.

Plus, I'd like an alias to quickly and more easily look up command IDs.

Moved parts of my post to this thread from "Like a new feature" as Don had requested:
highend wrote:
Configuration: Added button "Jump to Setting..." (F3). Shows an
alphabetically ordered list of all settings available in the
Configuration dialog, along with a live filter box.
Yeah! Ok, the highlighting doesn't look that nice (can we have an option to only
focus an entry without highlighting it?) but the feature itself.... Fantastic!
Just tried it and I DO like the highlight! It will be esp helpful to new users of XY who can get lost in all the options so making it very clear where it's at should reduce "how do I" posts here, I think.
