I think that this would be a really good addition to XYPlorer.....
Now, when you hold-click on a filename, the name is highlighted so that you can rename it. If you hit either the right or left arrow key, the cursor is placed at the end of the filename so that you can presumably add to the end of the filename.
Could you make it so that if you hit the left arrow key, the cursor will be placed at the beginning of the filename instead of at the end? The right arrow key would do the same as it does now.
Select cursor position when renaming files
Re: Select cursor position when renaming files
i find this improvement useful.
but more, i'd like to add that it'll be good if pushing right won't change cursor position(keep it before .extension) and will just discard the selection = currently either right or left are discarding selection and moving cursor to correspondent position, and only PageDown allows to only discard.

The Home key does this already, doesn't it?lugosi wrote:Could you make it so that if you hit the left arrow key, the cursor will be placed at the beginning of the filename instead of at the end? The right arrow key would do the same as it does now.

Re: Select cursor position when renaming files
The behavior of Left and Right keys is a Windows standard that should not be changed IMO. What's bad about using PageDown (or Down, if serial rename is off)?eil wrote:i find this improvement useful.

But I'd also suggest that most XY users would always view extensions (as I do) and are thus not the average. FWIW.eil wrote: i don't think i would be mistaken to say most of average users use view without extension more often than with it(just to not delete extension while renaming) = and here is mine addictance to Win behavior,
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

I didnt know that the Home key works like it does. Yes, that is helpful....I will use that for now.admin wrote:The Home key does this already, doesn't it?lugosi wrote:Could you make it so that if you hit the left arrow key, the cursor will be placed at the beginning of the filename instead of at the end? Some of the other replies to this topic mention the 'Exclude Extension on Rename' setting. I like that this setting exists, but I think that my suggestion would work whether this option is set or unset. Eventually XYPlorer will get so inundated with setting switches that it might become very difficult to use, so we dont want to go that route either.

Re: Select cursor position when renaming files
well it's pity
by the way, it's not just my idea -TC has such "right to deselect" behavior if "Select only file name while renaming" is checked.
