No Drive Bar
No Drive Bar
I would like to see a drive bar added to the program. I have tried other file managers such as Free Commander, Power Desk Pro 8, FileBoss, Directory Opus and Explorer ++. All of those programs have a drive bar feature that I like for accessing a drive on my computer. The drive icon on the XYplorer Toolbar is okay but not as good as having a drive bar.
I would also like to see a feature for XYplorer where a file can be Zipped or Unzipped.
One other thing I would like to see is a true Windows 7 64-bit version.

Re: No Drive Bar
Welcome to the forum!
IMO a drive bar is a file management control from another world / time. Isn't it a 1990's Norton/TC kind of device?
I'd like to know: How many of the long-term XYplorer users are missing a drive bar?
Don

Re: No Drive Bar
The one thing I like about it in other FM's, is because of the combination of removable drives with the regular (maxi) Tree which causes those drives (at the bottom of the tree) to scroll out of view. Those removable drives often require selecting commands from their context menu, which a drive bar facilitates by having those drives always in view.admin wrote:Welcome to the forum!

Having said that, for navigation I have multiple tabs at different locations open in combination with the Favorites button on the toolbar. In terms of wishes, pretty much everything on the roadmap is more desirable to me.

It so comfortable to see all available drive and just click one-after-the-other without first open an menu.

(I didn't use an tree mostly; i switch drives and go up and down)
Re: No Drive Bar
have no need in drive bar 'cause using mini-tree. even if i'll need something like that i thing it can be implemented via scripts(drop-down menu).

Not me. In the previous FM I used it was the first thing to be turned off.admin wrote:I'd like to know: How many of the long-term XYplorer users are missing a drive bar?

Re: No Drive Bar
I'm not a really long time user, so I use right click menu on tree white space in order to show drive list. I miss drive bar only in case of removable drives, I can see the mounted drives immediatelly by that.

Re: No Drive Bar
Looks like a "removable drives bar" could be useful for some. But note that XY's toolbar does not even have captions. And the drives icons would not be enough here.

FYI, I now realize a real use of a removable drives bar in that it gives immediate status feedback about which drives are available. But IMO the price (in screen space) is quite high for this. Anyway, given the large number of requests for this I will think about it. Hunting a bunch of TC users...

Is there a way to popup the Go - Drives... list (I'm using a shortcut for it) on a different position? Atm linking it to the upper left corner of the tree is more distracting than useful. Maybe there could be an option (drop-down field) where the user defines where he wants to see it.
Possibilities:
Special: Tree / Left pane / Right pane / Active pane /// General: Mouse cursor
and a suboption for special (mouse cursor won't need it): Top left, top middle, top right, right middle, bottom right, bottom middle, bottom left, left middle, center
E.g. I'd personally choose: Active pane - center so that I'm aware where the drive will be opened.

There are so many ways already:highend wrote:+1From first time use of XYplorer on, i miss the option

- Toolbar button "Drives"
- Right-click toolbar button "Up"
- Right-click Address bar dropdown arrow
- Menu Go | Drives -> keyboard shortcut
- tweak CEA_TreeRightClickOnWhite=2

All used via mouse, not keyboard.- Toolbar button "Drives"
- Right-click toolbar button "Up"
- Right-click Address bar dropdown arrow
- tweak CEA_TreeRightClickOnWhite=2
This is the one I'm talking about. It's the only short, fast and manageable way to get to your drives list quickly via a keyboard command.- Menu Go | Drives -> keyboard shortcut
The only problem with it is: the popup window is completely at the wrong place. If you're focused on a pane you're working with atm it's a distracting "desaster" to find it on a completely different place (at the top left point of the tree pane). It's getting even worse if you have a high resolution widescreen monitor and actually working on the right pane and have to look 1200+ pixel to the left only to see what you could see in the current pane.
It would at least make it _a lot more comfortable_ for all keyboard users to use their drives (static & non permanent).

Re: No Drive Bar
Favor keeping the UI clean! With all the mentioned ways to get to drives a DriveBar is largely superfluous. Have been registered for several years and the TB button has always sufficed. (Of course understand your mileage may vary.)
Re: No Drive Bar
It depends perhaps on the amount of mounted drives?
I for my own have currently 19 drives mapped and
have to switch drives often (even with DP and tabs) and so
i like it to quickly switch by an single click on an visual button
instead of open an menu first and then scroll down to the wanted drive.
As keyboard user i have set an shortcut "Shift+D" for "Go > Drives..."
and then press the key of the needed drive letter.
