Automatic folder rules

Post by LittleBiG »

I have some special folders, which I have to see always with the same form. Certain visual filter, certain sorting, or maybe I would like to see a plus column only in the Pictures folder etc. I think about a solution, when I can give some folder rules (or I can save the folder visual state), and these would be automatically executed, and would alive only until I leave that particular folder. Would it slow xy too much?

It sounds like Folder View Settings, which is described in the help file?

So this is a useless topic. It shows, although I use XY for some time, there are features I don't know yet. Thanks, nas8e9!

been there..done that! I know the feeling and I've been here for about 5 yrs! But sometimes when you begin to use a feature that hasn't applied to your situation before, you're like a newbie...and we all understand that feeling, I think.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Maybe this topic isn't useless... I have a folder, where I don't want to see *.log files, because there are many of it. (!*.log) Or in pictures, I want to see images, but not garbages (thumb.db, *.bak). Unfortunately visual filter is not saved. Could you extend with that, Don?

Technically yes, logistically no. :)

I understand. From your point of view visual filter doesn't strictly belong to folder settings. You're right. Anyway, it would have been a cool feature though, off by default, just an option.

I rather meant to say: no time currently. Maybe later.

maybe you should try to do such visual filtering through catalog or scripting(or them both)? i think it's possible. it doesn't make the request as for the saving this parameters for specific folder, but it lets to do such filtering.

Currently I use catalog for this. But there is no point in wasting catalog space, when I need this very special visual filter for only one folder.

Ok. I know this is not a promise, yet thanks. I will be here :)
