Configurable Print/Paste Reports

Post by chezdj »

I'm still finding stuff that XYPlorer will do and my normal experience is that when I want to do something with it, all I have to do is look hard enough !

However, I want to print or paste the output of a search with only selected columns. As I understand it, I can create a print/paste report of a DOS dir style listing (all files) or a current list (assumed to be the current visual search tab listing). I want to select whether or not to print/paste stuff like size, mod date/time etc.

My purpose, for example, is to create a simple filename list of all video files in a specific directory so that I can compare this list with others and physically 1. mark duplicates 2. highlite name similarities 3. note missing items. My search for similar threads failed to match my needs exactly.

If the solution is already a menu feature which I have overlooked then I would appreciate a pointer. I guess scripting may be the only answer if not.

Thanks

Hi and welcome!

The following steps should get you the above:
1. Display the Info Panel (Window > Show Info Panel).
2. Use the Find Files tab to search for the files to be included.
3. Select/deselect the columns by right-clicking on an empty part of the column headings bar.
4. Use the Report tab > Current List subtab to generate the report.

With regard to the third point, XYplorer has several different List Views, of which Search is but one. Changes you make to one View are confined to that view, which is why it's important to make changes to the columns only after you've performed a search.

XYplorer does have a Sync function to compare the contents of two folders located in the two Panes. If that's what you need, the steps are as follows:
1. Enter Dual Pane mode (Panes > Dual Pane).
2. Select the required folder in each pane.
3. Compare the two folders (Panes > Sync Select).

Hope this helps.

Thanks nas8e9
The magical part of the task that was evading me was as you pointed out :-
3. Select/deselect the columns by right-clicking on an empty part of the column headings bar.
Changes you make to one View are confined to that view, which is why it's important to make changes to the columns only after you've performed a search.
Thanks for the Sync reminder too but, call me old fashioned, I still find a paper list useful a times.
