I often have to reorder the list view to switch between the "sort by type" and "sort by name" options.
I would be very helpful if XY could keep the currently selected item in the visible part of the listview after resorting (that is, resort and then scroll the list view in such a way that the selected item will be visible).
Thanks a lot!

Ever tried this? Configuration | General | Keep current item in view after sorting

FYI, alternatively you can keep the above unchecked an hold CTRL while resorting.

Re: keep selected item visible when reordering list view
Ah, excellent. The power of XY is suprising me again and again.
Maybe it would make sense to rename the option to "Keep selected item in view after re-sorting"? I think that makes it clearer what the option does. But okay, I don't really care, now that you pointed me to it.
Thanks!
EDIT: Just tested it. Works as advertised. Great!

Actually the correct term would be "focused". But would this make it clearer?rhoelzl wrote:Maybe it would make sense to rename the option to "Keep selected item in view after re-sorting"? I think that makes it clearer what the option does.
Isn't every sorting a resorting?

Actually, to me, yes.admin wrote:Actually the correct term would be "focused". But would this make it clearer?
True, but I believe re-sort makes clearer in what situations that option can be useful.Isn't every sorting a resorting?
But again, I don't care personally, now that you pointed me to the feature. I just thought it might help other users.

Re: keep selected item visible when reordering list view
For me, the very first time is a 'sort' and any subsequent time would be a 'resort' and in this case, the first 'sort' is usually done automatically when user browses the folder (the exceptions being when "sort by" is 'unsorted' or 'random') so in most all cases, the term 'resorting' would apply but since it's not 100% true, I guess using 'sorting' would be most accurate.admin wrote:Isn't every sorting a resorting?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Yes, but I agree with rhoelzl that "re-sort makes clearer in what situations that option can be useful."j_c_hallgren wrote:For me, the very first time is a 'sort' and any subsequent time would be a 'resort' and in this case, the first 'sort' is usually done automatically when user browses the folder (the exceptions being when "sort by" is 'unsorted' or 'random') so in most all cases, the term 'resorting' would apply but since it's not 100% true, I guess using 'sorting' would be most accurate.admin wrote:Isn't every sorting a resorting?

And while it may seem contrary to my statements above, I would agree with this also...simply because I think most all people have their list sorted and thus their first user initiated 'sort' is really a 'resort' and that's when this applies.admin wrote:Yes, but I agree with rhoelzl that "re-sort makes clearer in what situations that option can be useful."
