Captions for directory names
On the Favorite Folders, you can give a "caption". Likewise, on the Catalog, you can name the entry anything you like. But, on the history or the Hot List, I see only the raw path name. I've got a few network shares used for different purposes, and just like I don't just memorize the path but use the shortcut, I don't recognize the raw path for which one it is. So, I suggest that the history and hot list show the user-ascribed name as well.

So are you suggesting that these get a second column with that data as extracted from catalog or Favorites? That would be a fair amount of overhead for minimal gain as i suspect most entries therein are not user-labeled...or are you thinking the user name as substitute for the actual path?JDługosz wrote: So, I suggest that the history and hot list show the user-ascribed name as well.
In either case, i could see performance impacts as a possibility.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: Captions for directory names
I'm suggesting that the user-name only be shown, as is the case for the Favorites and Catalog. The latter shows the actual destination on a tooltip; the former doesn't. I'm getting the feeling that a lot of these features are not based on a uniform underlying mechanism. The name was good enough to get you there the first time; it's what you commanded, so that should be what goes on the history.
I don't see performance being a problem. You just add the user-name when populating the list, rather than the actual directory. I'm not suggesting that it search every directory to see if a user-defined name is available; it would only show user-defined names if such was used to get there in the first place.

Toolbar Tooltips 2.0 may also be of your interest, JDługosz.
It went towards a very theoretical discussion, but I know the feeling of being lost within an unfriendly ambiance instead of being able to control stuff a bit more by just giving them familiar names and comments/reminders... Enlisting into your lines!
