IP problems
sometimes my info panel stop working properly.
the IP only updates if i click on a file in the list.
in other words, using the keyboard's up or down on the list changes the focused file (and the info on the statusbar) but the info panel still shows the last file i clicked.
this keeps happening for a while, then it goes back to normal somehow (i.e. keyboard works again).
it's not related to any specific path or file type, after it starts it happens on all paths and files.
sorry i can't give any useful info, but i really don't have a clue about what causes it, nor how to make it go away.
another less annoying problem is related only to preview.
i have the IP on preview tab and AR enabled, then i open a file.
the preview pane is cleared (to unlock the file, i assume), and xy goes to the background when the other app opens.
but after a while (and not always), xy suddenly pops to foreground with the file i opened being previewed again.
this one is more a wish then a bug.
once more with the IP on preview tab.
i want to open a file, so i dbl-click it.
well, it doesn't really work like that.
on the first click xy started to load the preview for that file, so now i have to wait a few hundred msecs (or a few full secs for some file types) until xy will let me dbl-click the file again to finally open it.
this could be fixed if there was a small delay before xy started loading the preview when you click a file.
the delay should be just enough for a dbl-click, or maybe configurable in a setting/tweak (since the dbl-click interval can be different in each system).

Re: IP problems
Never had the first two, but keep an eye on it.
Understood, but this would delay every single preview by (typically) 300 msec. Not good either.Muroph wrote:this one is more a wish then a bug.

the first seems to come and go ramdomly, so it's gonna be hard to find the cause.admin wrote:Never had the first two, but keep an eye on it.
not even restartin xy fixes it, and that's very weird.
the 2nd seem to happen when xy is on the background and refreshes the list.
that's all i know for now.
true, that's why i suggested to make it configurable.admin wrote:Understood, but this would delay every single preview by (typically) 300 msec. Not good either.

a small correction to the bug description:
the status bar is not updated correctly when using the keyboard.
the 1st and 2nd fields are OK, but the 3rd (the one that shows the file name and icon) keeps displaying the info of the last file that was clicked on the list (just like the IP).
PS: this has been happening for a few months already...

Happened not once here. What's your OS again?Muroph wrote:bumpingMuroph wrote:sometimes my info panel stop working properly.

yesterday i noticed one more thing: when this bug is triggered, the file info tips also stop working.
so, it seems like t's not a IP problem, but something a bit bigger.
could it be that xy is waiting for the shell to return the info, but the shell has somehow frozen?
i'll try to test a few theories, but it's not gonna be easy since i can't trigger the bug at will.

Re: IP problems
I just want to add that I have seen both the issue where the IP does not update unless the item is clicked and also the loss of info tips on XP SP3.
But I too have no idea how to reproduce this or what the cause may be.

Re: IP problems
It might be cause by "focus confusion". Focusing another control (click into it) and then back to the list should fix it. True?TheQwerty wrote:I just want to add that I have seen both the issue where the IP does not update unless the item is clicked and also the loss of info tips on XP SP3.

I wish I could verify that, but I cannot reproduce it at will. I would have thought I'd have tried that, but who knows.admin wrote:It might be cause by "focus confusion". it happened again just now.admin wrote:It might be cause by "focus confusion". Focusing another control (click into it) and then back to the list should fix it. True?
and, no, focusing another control didn't fix it.
this time it stopped after i restarted xy.
unfortunately, some times it's not that easy.
often i had to actually restart my pc to make the bug go away.
the only suspect i had was mediainfo's info tip, which i use often, and might have been causing it.
but i used process explorer and didn't find any program using the related dlls.

restart the pc? This cannot be an XY bug then.Muroph wrote:it happened again just now.admin wrote:It might be cause by "focus confusion". Focusing another control (click into it) and then back to the list should fix it. True?

i thought so, and i've already tested it some time ago.admin wrote:restart the pc? This cannot be an XY bug then.
i ran xy with windows in safe mode, with only 1 other program, and the bug still happened after a while.
besides, how could some other app have cause the click vs keyboard difference i see on the IP?

Re: IP problems
Well I saw this again this morning.. restarting XY didn't fix it. Running a freshly extracted copy of XY that was renamed to 'xyplorer-test.exe' exhibits the exact same behavior, so it's definitely some interation between XY and something on the system.
So I'll concede the source of the problem is probably not XY, but XY has so far been the only program to show any negative side-affects from whatever is wrong. That fact implies, at least to me, that there is also a bug in XY's handling of the missing piece.
Because this is my work machine and I don't have 30+ minutes available to do a real restart I figured I'd wait it out this time, and surprisingly it eventually went away and is once again working correctly.
Now in that period of time I did close a number of programs but I think the only two that could have been the culprit are Dropbox or Jungle Disk Desktop. However, I only just started using Dropbox in the last two weeks and I've seen this problem before that and without Dropbox ever being installed.
Perhaps Jungle Disk is causing a problem, but I'm not sure how. It doesn't have a context menu shell extension, just an icon overlay handler. Maybe it's the way they create a file system in the cloud, but when I closed it I only closed the monitor, their service was still running in the background. Also, when I first noticed the issue I wasn't doing anything with Jungle Disk, so that complicates things further.
I (still) haven't been able to reproduce this at will, so I cannot try closing Jungle Disk once more. Such a frustrating bug this is!
You don't happen to be running Dropbox or Jungle Disk are you, Muroph?

Re: IP problems
update:
this bug seems to have gotten worse in newer xy versions.
now not even clicking on a list item updates the IP.
i had to actually change the selected IP tab to force it to update...
