These are all nice workarounds, and I really appreciate the feedback and the enthusiasm of the users because this is a great product! However, I am hoping x2's implementation gets implemented, since it is the most intuitive and efficient means to accomplish the goal. It is one of those features that you don't realize how nice it is until you use it.

But if the "Vista/W7 style" was done instead, wouldn't that give you what you wanted and more? Since that allows a dynamic selection of sub-folders within each path segment...

Just to be clear, this has not been implemented yet, but will be soon?

Just want to add my vote as well to have something like the the Windows 7 style "dynamic selection of sub-folders within each path segment" as mentioned by j_c_hallgren. (Don't forget the incremental type-ahead search.) That's one of the few smart things that Microsoft has done with this OS and the only significant improvement in Windows Explorer.
