Unsolicited reaction to latest updates

Post by ChrisW »

The last few versions mark a watershed for XYplorer, at least for my personal needs. A few of the enhancements really improve its usability and "livability" for me, so I'd like to say "thanks" -- and then ask for more.

The improvements to the toolbar are largely cosmetic, but I think they make a big difference with my color scheme (which is the default Win Server 2003, not something crazy). This just makes it more comfortable to use.

The second thing that really helped me use it was the addition of queued, non-modal file operations. I see in the "What's new" that it's possible to see what's in the queue, but somehow I haven't quite figured that out. I was also quite confused for a while when I did a "move" or "copy" through the shell extension menu, which, it turns out, circumvents this feature. In retrospect I understand why this happens, but it could be made clearer.

A third change is really just a difference in my mind. I've been a user of DOpus for some time on my home PC, but didn't want to spring for another license (XYplorer is a ton cheaper!). I had recently been aggravated at the time that DOpus was taking to sort and jump to top/bottom of a not-particularly-large directory. I just found that XYplorer is able to do the same thing much faster! Together with XYplorer's mini-tree, which is a bit of a killer feature, I'm now happier in XYplorer.

Finally, my wish. I use DOpus "Flat View | Mixed (no folders)". I've found that I can get the same view in XYplorer using the search feature, looking for all files. However, I can't do as much from here. In particular, I'd like to be able to grab all the files I'm seeing and move them into another directory. But when I try this, I get a message saying that file operations can only be done for files in the same location. For what I'm trying to do, this restriction doesn't seem to make sense -- and DOpus is able to do it.

Thanks for your improvements, and hopefully for considering my requests.

Thanks!

The Flat View was mentioned here recently and have put in on my list. It's very easy to implement so I don't see a reason why it should not come to your home pretty soon.
