Upgraded from 8.80.000 to 8.90.000 and allconfiguration lost
Upgraded from 8.80.000 to 8.90.000 and allconfiguration lost
Hello, I have upgraded from version 8.80.000 to 8.90.000 and I've lost all my configuration. It is like a clean install. This is the first time it happens. I downloaded the setup and installed it over my previous version. It always kept my config when I upgrade to a new version, but this time it has deleted all my configuration. Why?
Also I've noticed the nuke button send the files to recycle bin instead of destroying the files. How can I set it like in previous versions of xyplorer?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm going to leave the important one for Don, but regarding the nuke button if you right click on it you can now set it up just as you like.

Re: Upgraded from 8.80.000 to 8.90.000 and allconfiguration lost
This happened to a couple of users where the auto-upgrading did not work out for them. The reason is, IF you are on Vista/W7, Vista/W7's file system virtualization.platanos wrote:Hello, I have upgraded from version 8.80.000 to 8.90.000 and I've lost all my configuration. Don't worry, your settings are not lost, but just not found. To show you how to retrieve them I need 2 answers:
1) Are you on Vista/W7?
2) Do you have a file Startup.ini in the folder where XYplorer.exe is? If yes, please open it and post the contents.

I also think it's not lost, just that XY thinks it may have moved when it didn't...so do you see XYplorer.ini, various ".dat" files and a 'Panes' folder in the XY appl folder itself? If so, then simply edit the startup.ini to make it "Path=".platanos wrote:I hope I can get my config back. Thanks again guys.Code: Select all

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Yes, but I assume this is not the case, otherwise the upgrading should have worked.j_c_hallgren wrote:I also think it's not lost, just that XY thinks it may have moved when it didn't...so do you see XYplorer.ini, various ".dat" files and a 'Panes' folder in the XY appl folder itself? I rather think the data are buried here:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\XYplorer\
Insert your username into <username> and try to go to that location. Does it exist and do you have XYplorer data files there? If yes then bingo. Copy all files you find there to %appdata%\XYplorer, the restart XYplorer without (!) saving. (ask if you don't know what this means).

Re: Upgraded from 8.80.000 to 8.90.000 and allconfiguration lost
Hi admin, I've found XYplorer files on this folder:
C:\Users\<Jose>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\XYplorer\
But I don't understand what do you mean with Copy all files you find there to %appdata%\XYplorer, the restart XYplorer without (!) saving. (ask if you don't know what this means).
Can you please explain me where is %appdata%\XYplorer. Also, is not better to replace the files with XYplorer closed?

Hi platanos,
1.)
- go to menu "Tools"
- start "Configuration..." and click on "Startup & Exit"
- note your Application data path at the bottom of this screen, in gray font "Application data path: X:\ eg path\XYplorer"
-close the dialog
(or paste this in the address bar of XYplorer ::goto <xydata>;
and press enter to go to this folder)
(This is meant by %appdata% , and - you may want to backup this folder first if you had make own modifications... )
2.)
Now open Windows Explorer and go to this XYplorer "Application data path".
3.)
Close XYplorer with or without saving.
4.)
In Windows Explorer paste now your copied data by pressing CTRL+V into the XYplorer app data folder.
(IF you have copied the *.exe also you may want to update them again to the newest one?
HTH?

i made it for all who came here reading this
a>%appdata%\XYplorer
not all have the data in %appdata%\XYplorer
a>- (Ctrl+A). - (Ctrl+C). - (Ctrl+V).
What's with the XYplorer.exe? Windows will tell you not be able to overwrite the exe... canceling the rest of the copy process
a> - Menu File / Restart without Saving.
and what's if the user had something to save from his work before?
