What is difference between 'default file manager' and 'Open'

Post by blewis999 »

I have looked through the forum/FAQs... and implemented setting context menus on for XYplorer, and made XYplorer the default file manager with the register tweak. But whenever I open a file window with an application (usually a Microsoft app), I get the hated windows lame explorer.

Is there another tweak/reg change or anything that can be done so that "ALL" file directory operations uses XYplorer?

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I think this not actually WE but a subset/variant of it specifically for use in/by Open so thus XY can't intercept it...I'm sure someone else will correct me if I'm off base.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I think you are probably right; but there must be a 'dll' that can be renamed and xyplorer substituted if the parameters passed are the same.

I tried this method with explorer.exe... renamed it to explorer2.exe and copied xyplorer.exe as explorer.exe but no luck. I would guess that the dll/exe has to be consistent and published API as it is called by every app that opens a file. I will ask on some of the windows sites as well. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious. Thanks
