xyplorer: delay on mapped network drives: config questions

Post by CyGho »

It's known that the filelisting of mapped network drives are slower if "Auto refresh on file system changes" is ON in the "old" Tracker.
In XYplorer local drives and network dives are seperated. But something strange is going on. I made a list from different settings and give the result of filelisting on network drives as SLOW or FAST:

Auto refresh on file system changes: marked
local drives: marked
network drives: marked
Result with filelisting on networkdrives: slow

Auto refresh on file system changes: marked
local drives: marked
network drives: UNmarked
Result with filelisting on networkdrives: slow

Auto refresh on file system changes: marked
local drives: UNmarked
network drives: marked
Result with filelisting on networkdrives: fast

Auto refresh on file system changes: marked
local drives: UNmarked
network drives: UNmarked
Result with filelisting on networkdrives: fast

Auto refresh on file system changes: UNmarked
local drives: marked or UNmarked
network drives: marked or UNmarked
Result with filelisting on networkdrives: fast

The results in red where unexpected, so it looks like the local- and network drive settings are switched.
Software: should we be aware because it's soft ? I like to think not !

Very weird! No, I did not switch local- and network drive settings, which you easily can verify by testing: open a 2nd XY and delete something from the folder the 1st one is in. If the 1st notices it, it is watching.

What about the other 2 settings (non-current locations): any influence on speed here?

No, the other settings don't make any difference.

In your test: when you say "networkdrives", are they mapped networkdrives? Did you also test with normal (UNC-style-named) network drives?

They are mapped yes. Your right, locations under "My nethood" are working like expected.

So mapped drives are seen as local then?

That's good. I expected otherwise and therefore add those 2 additional checkboxes. I think I can remove them now, treating them internally as checked, because there is no good reason why you would have these settings independently once AutoRefresh is on. Okay? This would also solve the semantic problem with the labels...

Can't speak for them, but for me it's fine yeah ;)

Yeah, that was the reason for all these checkboxes: to find out which checks slow down the network.
So is it now fast enough?

I tested the performance with my "slow" mapped network drive and the folder with the 2700 files in it, but couldn't find a difference between "AutoRefresh" checked or unchecked.
Still got the unexplained 15 secs delay when selecting a tab already pointing to that folder. Too bad :(
