"Value-added" sort of thing...

Post by admin »

I decided that the ones who actually pay for a prof license should get at least some plus-value in return.

What would be a nice prof-only feature? Any suggestions?

How about adding the Favourites interface idea you suggested some months ago. I know I didn't approve of it when first suggested, but the further discussion made it sound interesting.

My other suggestion is for a thumbnails only view - I suggested that some time ago and I cannot remember what your response was.

"Value-removed" sort of thing...

Hmm, I think both of you did get me wrong. I'm not asking for a new feature to be added, but I ask you to select an already existing feature that should be available only in the prof version.

"Value-removed" sort of thing... would have been a better title.

That's a tricky one...you want the professional-only feature(s) to be enticing enough to get people to buy, at the same time you don't want to cripple your software. Some things that come to mind:

--Visual Filters
--Toolbar Customization
--File previews

Removing/disabling already existing features might make your "home-license" users upset, but at the same time it could lead to more prof license sales.....hmmmmmm.

PS--On a side note, I agree with Gandolf about reworking the Favorites interface. I think I posted a Wish about that a while back.

Yeah, or they could also just stay with the last "fully-functionnal" free version and not upgrade anymore... Which is why I think it should be only recently added features, or limitations.

I agree on the visual filters & toolbar customization, not the file preview though. I think it a very important feature, like the search one, and if people can try it they'll just go away from TV3.
The color filter could be in the list too though, and you could also set up some limitations, like max 5 tabs open & only 2 tabs in search mode at one time, or something like that. Also limit the number of favorite folders, boxed ones, etc

Same thing, if you redo the report feature using templates, you could limit the free version to only your internal template(s) or something....

I was already thinking about that too! It's the newest feature, so old fellows won't lose something they got used to; and it does not take away anything you could not have in various other ways. Paying customers on the other hand will have a nice value-added, especially when the number of buttons is increasing, as it apparently is right now...

In fact I will allow customizing it, but the customization will not be remembered between sessions but will be reset to good old "back, fore,up,cut, copy, paste, del, home".

* Maximum of two (or three, whatever) tabs in free version.

* No "extract text" feature in free version.

* Random, unexpected crashes in free version.

I think the Toolbar Customization thing is enough.
