Is it possible to set a default path for new tabs?
Currently a new tab will open with the same path as the current tab, but I would prefer each new tab to open in My Computer.
Default path for new tabs

Welcome to the forums!
This is indeed (almost) possible but it requires you to become familiar with INI tweaking.
For help on performing this tweak take a look at these links:

Now I say this is almost possible because I'm not sure off the top of my head how you can set that path to be "My Computer." Hopefully, someone else can chime in with that small but rather important detail.

Re: Default path for new tabs
Well that worked nicely, thanks.
Turns out the path for "My Computer" is "My Computer"
Next question, is it possible to open the new tab with all folders in the tree collapsed and only drive letters showing?

Re: Default path for new tabs
I can answer that myself, I just needed AutoOptimizeTree=1 and AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1.
Unfortunately I don't like auto optimize when I'm working in a tree. Fussy fussy fussy...

Hmm.. That doesn't work here, but I'm glad it's working for you.rgs wrote:Turns out the path for "My Computer" is "My Computer"
Well.. there are a few options for optimizing the tree, but I don't think you'll find an option that only works when opening a new tab.rgs wrote:Next question, is it possible to open the new tab with all folders in the tree collapsed and only drive letters showing?
You could try the Configuration -> General -> Auto-Optimize Tree option and the more aggressive tweak:
Code: Select all
; Tweak: set to 1 to optimize the tree on each location change
AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1EDIT: Yep, you found it on your own.
Re: Default path for new tabs
Did you try it without quotes? I've set my permanent startup path to "My Computer" and it's in the ini file as StartPathPerm=My ComputerTheQwerty wrote:Hmm.. That doesn't work here, but I'm glad it's working for you.rgs wrote:Turns out the path for "My Computer" is "My Computer"
Re: Default path for new tabs
try using the same name as the "my computer" icon in your desktop and/or start menu.TheQwerty wrote:Hmm.. That doesn't work here, but I'm glad it's working for you.rgs wrote:Turns out the path for "My Computer" is "My Computer"
