Default path for new tabs

Post by rgs »

Is it possible to set a default path for new tabs?
Currently a new tab will open with the same path as the current tab, but I would prefer each new tab to open in My Computer.

Welcome to the forums!

This is indeed (almost) possible but it requires you to become familiar with INI tweaking.
For help on performing this tweak take a look at these links:

http://88.191.26.34/XYwiki/index.php/IN ... r_New_Tabs

The particular tweak you're looking for is:

Code: Select all

; Tweak: default start location for a new tab
StartPathNewTab=

Now I say this is almost possible because I'm not sure off the top of my head how you can set that path to be "My Computer." Hopefully, someone else can chime in with that small but rather important detail. :D

Well that worked nicely, thanks.

Turns out the path for "My Computer" is "My Computer" :D

Next question, is it possible to open the new tab with all folders in the tree collapsed and only drive letters showing?

I can answer that myself, I just needed AutoOptimizeTree=1 and AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1.

Unfortunately I don't like auto optimize when I'm working in a tree. Fussy fussy fussy... :)

Hmm.. That doesn't work here, but I'm glad it's working for you.

Well.. there are a few options for optimizing the tree, but I don't think you'll find an option that only works when opening a new tab.

You could try the Configuration -> General -> Auto-Optimize Tree option and the more aggressive tweak:

Code: Select all

; Tweak: set to 1 to optimize the tree on each location change
AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1
These will collapse nodes on the tree that are not in use, but note that these will affect your normal usage of the tree and not just when you open new tabs. Not so sure you can do any better than that though (at the moment).

EDIT: Yep, you found it on your own. :P

Did you try it without quotes? I've set my permanent startup path to "My Computer" and it's in the ini file as StartPathPerm=My Computer

Ah... never noticed they dropped the "My " in Vista.
