history problem
I found a problem in the history feature, and it s happens everytime. I should mention that in configuraiton, i have history per tab checked and history without duplicates unchecked.
I have that:
DIRA
- DIRB
- DIRC
I am into DIRA,
1 - i enter DIRB
2 - i use backward to go back to dirA
3 - then enter DIRC.
4 - Then if i do backward it goes into DIRB and not DIRA.
I think i understand why it does that, because DIRA is already in the history and so it wont add a new entry for it during 2. But that s quite disturbing when you are working as for you the last dir was DIRA and not DIRB!
Could we have a mode or something where 4 goes to DIRA?
Thanks

Re: history problem
I personally never use the 'Back' function/button, but I do think this should actually go into DIRA, as you suggest. Especially, since this is exactly what it does if you don't use 'Back' but instead manually change into DIRA from DIRC (via mouse, or keyboard 'Backspace').
Technically entering DIRC should overwrite the DIRB entry in the History in my understanding (while the manual changing up one level by whatever means and then entering DIRC appends new history entries). At least this is how all browsers I know (and explorer) handle it

Re: history problem
No.
This was my main concern about XY some time ago and I had debates with Don about this exact issue.
I use history too, very intensively. This is a major problem with XY and combined with few recent random crashes, I put XY aside for now and am using W Explorer again. The history is too important for my way of working and I will use Explorer until this is fixed.
The crash was connected to using "find as you type" in the file list after creating a new tab, or something like that. Very annoying. Explorer has its own bugs but all are non-crashable for me, at least.
I'll wait for the version with fixed history.
carmenm, you have nothing left but waiting too. Don said one time that he is planning this not earlier than v8.20.

Re: history problem
sorry i might be somewhere...
but something alike similar to this issue...
anyway, here goes...
have 1 lock tab (far left)
open/goto 2 dir/folder to get a history in.
now close 2nd tab (the one in the right) and you'll have 1 left which is locked
now hit back button on your toolbar.(the blue arrow will do nothing, but the dark down arrow next to the back will crash XY)
result XY crash
(if you have allow multiple instances, you will have to use a process viewer of a type to close XY and then you can run again) *you dont have to kill the remaining process but just to keep it clean and neat to start a new one*
i will give a full workout once i've master this (good thing is the default setting will not make XY get this, somewhere in custom setting...)
Tested : XP Pro SP3 (x86)
XY : 8.10.0008

Re: history problem
Yes, I'm aware of it and will eventually change it. The problems comes from the fact that XY's history tries to be a MRU at the same time. The solution will be have a separate MRU (that will be used in Hotlist e.g.).carmenm wrote:I am sorry to bump but i am not sure if Don saw that one ...

Re: history problem
I still do not see the tab history issue fixed even in the latest 8.30 beta. I left using XY for a month now, hoping to see this thing working at last. I heard rumors that it will be, in 8.20 but..
Any chances to see this fixed any soon? This is a general everyday-use function and the lack of it prevents me from using the program for over a month.
Thanks.

Maybe right-click menu of HOTLIST TB-button should also have "Recent locations".

Still no luck.admin wrote:Next beta version will have the desired changes.
Maybe in some next beta.
But I wouldn't wait for 9.0 (suppose it is coming in month or two or so) to check if just this is fixed
Thanks again.

Thanks again.

Re: history problem
Yes, the same old behavior:admin wrote:You mean it still does not work? Explain, please.
- In some tab I'm in D:\Temp.
- I have two directories in here (ex1, ex2).
- I go to ex1 (full: D:\Temp\ex1) by double click (if that does matter).
- I go back with mouse button 4 and end up with D:\Temp as expected.
- I go to ex2 (by double click if that does matter).
- I try to go back in D:\Temp by MButton 4, and end up in D:\Temp\ex1, the expected is D:\Temp.
I suppose there is something generally wrong in per-tab history management.

Re: history problem
Oh yeah, if "History without duplicates" is OFF it's indeed buggy still! Fix comes...tedy wrote:Yes, the same old behavior:admin wrote:You mean it still does not work? Explain, please.
