ZIP option in context menu

Post by nrshapiro »

For some reason, XYPlorer hasn't been showing any ZIP options in the file Context menu.

I am pretty sure it used to, at least a long time ago, and maybe on a different computer.

I am running Vista 64.

I have two ZIP programs installed: Winzip 11 (or whatever the latest is), and PowerZIP (also latest version). Both show up in Windows Explorer's file context menu. But nada in XYPlorer. :(

Any ideas why? It's a pain to have to go find the files in Explorer to zip.

I also have Teracopy installed, and that one shows up in XYPlorer. But that may be 64 bit. Is that the issue here?

Yes, as Don said its because XY is 32-bit app. But there are ways to show menus, but require some scripting. For example for 7-zip there are some scripts around and also read this related post on zip issue in 64-bit:

What's confusing here is that WinZIP and PowerZIP are both 32 bit apps, so they should show in XYPlorer, no?

Actually, when I double checked this, I realize I don't have "PowerZIP", I have "PowerArchiver". But it is indeed 32 bits as well.

So why don't they workk in XYPlorer, and somehow work in the 64 bit Windows Explorer only?

Because the installation is aware it is installing on x64 OS and registers only the 64 bit shell extension. They ship with both extensions and install only the appropriate after the OS type.
WinRAR, for example, is visible in both WE and XY. It seems it registers both 64 and 32 bit dlls.
