Due to complex circumstances have begun to use the unsupported Microsoft utility Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel 2.0.1.1. However, when the ISO is shut down the virtual drive persistently remains in the Tree. Neither Refresh Tree nor even an xyplorer restart gets rid of it. Only solution found thus far is to reload a backup of INI.
Is there a better way?

Thank you for the reply; will have a look at the suggested software. In fairness to Microsoft, once you get the hang of their bare bones utility it does work well. The reason for its use is to keep the ISO of several CD's and DVD's of images always online.
Since the original posting the difficulty has been corrected. "Tree Lock" had been engaged and wouldn't let loose of the virtual drives. Once it had been unlocked and a Rebuild Tree invoked they went away.
