Overwrite prompt focus issue

Post by JohnM »

Let's say I want rename a file but the resulting name would clash with an existing file. In this XY would prompt the user.

Consider this scenario:
I have two files "test.txt" and "test.txt.1".
I want to change the name of "test.txt.1" to "text.txt" by removing the ".1".

With "test.txt.1" highlighted I press <F2> and remove ".1" and press <ENTER>.
XY pops the "Overwrite prompt" dialogue box like so:
Overwrite prompt 1.PNG

We can see that the "Suffix" button has focus. Pressing the <TAB> key once moves to focus to the "Ok" button. Pressing it again moves to the "Cancel" button. Pressing it a third time moves the focus away from the buttons and into the dialogue box itself (in this case to the start of the word "test"). (Note I highlighted where I mean):

Pressing the <TAB> again moves the focus back to the "Suffix" button.

Cheers
John

Yes, there are two issues:

1) Pressing the <TAB> again should move the focus back to the "Suffix" button, but it actually moves it to the OK button.

2) Clicking into the text box does not really move the focus there.

Both fixed in next beta.

Hi Don,

I think there is still a problem with the dialogue box.

Focus starts on the "Suffix" button and then pressing <TAB> moves the focus to "Ok" and then to "Cancel". Pressing <TAB> from here takes the focus (caret) into the text of the dialogue box:

Pressing <TAB> then takes the focus to the "Suffix" button. Is this intended?

This same behaviour can be seen in the "Overwrite Now" dialogue:

Looks good to me. What part do think is not as expected?

The fact that the focus caret can end up inside the dialogue box text. I think a dialogue box that only contains info (text) and buttons should make sure the focus remains on one of the buttons.

The idea was that you might want to select and copy the text. Now I think you are right, it's unexpected and somewhat ridiculous. I'll change it.
