Adaptive F11 Preview window size

Post by noembryo »

This is a wish I have for the way the F11 preview panel displays an image.
IrfanView has this feature, and is the main reason I still use it.
It has to do with the adaptability of the window's size, while keeping always the bigger display possible.
It is actually a mix of two separate features.

The first is the "Fit window to image"
This, resizes the preview window to occupy the least amount of screen space, depending on the size of the image.
When the image is smaller than the screen, it show it in its true size (1:1), and the window is the same size than the image, with the rest of the screen empty, an option that we don't have in XYplorer, since the Preview window size is fixed.

When the image is bigger than the screen, the second option is activated (if selected), "Fit only big images to screen".
This means that if one dimension of the image is bigger that this dimension of the screen, the whole image is scaled down to the screen's dimension, keeping the original ratio, while resizing the window to the displayed size.
So if an image is too tall, the window gets narrow, leaving the rest of the screen free.

With XYplorer, I have to use a fixed window that is smaller than the screen (if I want to see anything other than the image, like XYplorer itself for navigation), and the images get resized to fit this size. That means that if I have a portrait window, the landscape images are shown much smaller than the screen allows, and vice versa. It also blocks a big part of the screen, even if I look at a 100x100 image.

Is there a way to achieve this behavior currently?
If not, are there any plans to implement said feature in the future?

Seems to make sense. I'll put it on my list.
