Size of folders isn't added

Size of folders isn't added

I had this one brewing for quite some time, but release of 7.3 "pushed me" over the edge. Here are the screens:

Without folder

With folder

As you can see, number of selected items increments by one (that's because I selected a folder) but the total size of selected items does not change. Quite frankly, I was stunned when I saw this for the very first time, it doesn't help that the folder that I added is about 4.5GBs in size. May I ask why XYplorer doesn't check the size of the folder and add it to the total when selected?

For that you have to enable "Show folder size in file list" from Config>General.

Update: or use Shift+F5 to see folder size for the current list.

Maybe because that's the same way that Win Expl does it? I just double-checked to be sure...

And serendipity's answer is another alternative...I don't use that option however due to personal preference as it takes a bit more overhead.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Thanks guys (i hope I'm correct there :oops: ). That did the trick! I know WE doesn't do it but was quite surprised that it wasn't enabled by default. Maybe just my logic of "x + y > x" is a bit too much :lol:

Yes, as far as I know, we're mostly all guys here! I only recall one obviously female poster in recent months...

One reason (AFAIK) why some features are not set by default is to make the transition from Win Expl easier as newbies can then see it still works as they were used to, and they then can add the XY goodies as they get familiar with it.

Maybe add "Novice", "Advanced" and "Expert" modes to installer? :lol: Anyway, that's for the wishes section.

I looked it up again in Tools -> Config -> General and noticed that the tickbox "Report the disk space used" is like a suboption of "Show folder sizes in file list". What's the difference between the two of those? Ticking "Show..." actually shows what it supposed to but if just "Report..." is ticked then I can't notice much difference. Cheers! 8)

The distinction is almost obsolete indeed!
If "Report the disk space used" is ON and "Show folder sizes in file list" is OFF, then only the folder sizes show the space used. But who needs this???

I will remove the checkbox "Report the disk space used".

Great, confusion resolved. I wondering, while we're on this, if it's possible to have the size of the folders added (like it happens when the box is ticked) but without having to display the size?

Sure, that would be possible, but would take the same long time, of course. So no use to do it.

Okay, so I'm no expert in this area, but I'm quite confused by this. :?

I thought that the "Report the disk space used" option meant that, to have the space actually used shown for folders' sizes.

Unless I'm wrong here, "Show folder sizes in file list" and "Report the disk space used" are nothing alike, at all. One will have the folder sizes calculated directly all the time in List, when browsing, while the other means XY will either list the "folder sizes" (sum of all contained files), or (when checked) the space used, as in occupied clusters of each folders' contents (including "wasted" space).

So one willing to use that option (have space used listed, not "standard" size) has nothing to do with Showing folder sizes or not. I mean, two completely different things : calculate folder sizes all the time, and report size or space used ! CFS can be an on-demand operation (Shift+F5), and then option "Report the disk space used" is taken into consideration as well !

Or, did you mean you want to remove option "Report the disk space used" and included it as part of option "Show Space Used" (menu View|Size Column Format) ?
