PDF file preview generation eats mouse clicks

Post by Blake »

1) XYplorer Version v28.20, 64-bit
2) Windows Version - Windows 10 Pro 22H2
3) Screen Scaling Percentage - 125%

Issue:
When PDF file preview generation is enabled, and you double-click on a .pdf file that isn't currently selected that doesn't have a preview generated yet,
doubleclick will fail, and only one click will be counted.
If you click once, nothing happens at all, like if you click once and then click again after a delay to trigger file rename, it won't trigger.
If you attempt to drag said file, drag operation gets cancelled and fails entirely.
After preview is generated, clicks on same file work again.

Try this: Configuration | Preview | Preview | Preview delay --> 500ms

This doesn't solve the issue. Clicks are still getting eaten after 500ms and before preview generation finishes.
Clicks do not register during preview generation process.

Select a PDF, then paste this into the address bar and press ENTER: text get("previewhandler"); What is returned?

1) I assume that's from Adobe Reader/Acrobat?

2) Is that Preview Pane (F11), or Preview Tab (F12), or both?

It is from Acrobat 9 Pro,
and the preview is in the "Preview Pane" sidebar, which is opened by Ctrl+F11,
Info panel (F12) is closed.

Whoops, yes, Ctrl+F11.

I tried to reproduce it but can't (if Configuration | Preview | Preview | Preview delay = 500). There are always problems with Adobe, but in this case the preview handler is not even called, so Adobe can't be blamed.

Out of ideas for now.

Then remove the delay? If you set delay to 500ms and preview generation takes 3 seconds,
then during 0-500ms clicks will work and then from 501-3500ms they won't work.

Delay just shifts the generation for later, its still interfering with the inputs when its active.
____

Also tested it on another PC where a somewhat newer Acrobat is installed, Acrobat Pro XI
Exact same thing happens, preview generation makes clicks not register.

Not here (Win8 and Win11). I cannot bring double-click to fail with or without delay (the only difference: without delay the preview is shortly engaged but then closed again when the file is opened by double-click).

Neither here...

Even a 100 MB Pdf preview is instant (and does not take several seconds)

I can reproduce it fairly consistently.
If the preview generation takes any amount of time, clicks don't register during it.

Also I have a 900MB document freeze XYplorer entirely for like 15 seconds with preview generation.

Are you sure you tried "Preview delay"? Because then there is no preview at all on a double-click.

With preview delay, if I click on a file once to get the preview, then doubleclick, doubleclick fails.
Again, delay just shifts the time window during which clicks fail.
And the longer preview generation takes, the longer is said time window.

In the first post you described your issue as such:
When PDF file preview generation is enabled, and you double-click on a .pdf file that isn't currently selected that doesn't have a preview generated yet, doubleclick will fail, and only one click will be counted.
Now you say:
With preview delay, if I click on a file once to get the preview, then doubleclick, doubleclick fails.
