CFA asterisk pattern for all files doesn't work in network paths or mapped drives

Post by jupe »

x86/x64 both affected.

In network locations or mapped network drives, the single * CFA pattern used as id for "all files", doesn't actually seem to match files in those locations, if entry is changed to *.* then files are matched though.

To repro in fresh,
  • goto a \\SERVER\folder or mapped network drive path that contains a file
  • select a file
  • press :openwith button
  • result = any * pattern "all files" entries are missing
Theoretically you should see the default entries "Copy file size in bytes" & "Append Mod Date...", but they're missing, at least for me on Win10.

This issue seems to go back at least as far as v17 x86, which was as far as I checked, but it's also present in latest x64 builds.

Weird. Works fine here with x32/x64 on Win8.1 and Win11 in all locations. :?

Oops my bad, I wrote this bug report from memory so forgot to mention that on normal Windows shares or even subst drives it works fine, can't remember about linux, but on things like a network printer or router with a usb drive conected is when there is a problem, maybe its not an XY issue, but somehow what ever os the host device is running, anyway the workaround I mentioned is usable if you don't think it is an XY issue.
