One click on any file “and it jumps to the front of the line.”

Post by iaseac »

We are using the Modified date to keep files sorted. To change sort order, of files, we must first click on Details>Ctrl+right click>Ctrl+Touch Modified date. (That changes the date and time to current)

I think it would really be neat if XY could change any file, in any display, to current in Modified, in any display, as an effective way to sort things. One click on any file “and it jumps to the front of the line.” That is, it would also save a lot of time for many people if this became an XYPlorer feature.
The attached is from Gemini:

And you don't want to use the way the AI suggested?

I regard this as a significant improvement. I also do not know the status of XY. It could be there, and nobody has seen it. Who knows what AI has considered and what may actually work?

Will it work for thumbnails of any size in addition to details, and with a single click, in your substantial opinion?

Can you suggest one or more shortcut keys that will not conflict with XY and hopefully few other programs?

I was thinking ... holding down a key(s) with one hand + click away at thumbnails or details with the other until the desired order of files or images is obtained with the Modified sort setting.
What is your opinion?

Has anybody else not tried this or think this could be another time saver? If others do not express an interest here, then this may also just die ...

There is even a menu command File | File Special | Set Modified Date to Current. Assign a shortcut to it and enjoy.

Way to go.
File Special #155 is greyed out. Which menu will turn it on? Anybody?

What shortcut name is safe from creating a conflict?

The command is #1034:
1. On right click I intended this item to be run. Not so. I have to click 1034 to get that. WHY NOT? Right or left does not seem to matter.

2. The above is run on the top menu. I would much rather hold down key + some key. Such as "Ctrl + Shift + U" and be able to click away.

The attached is what I have now. (Yes, I did enter a return + restart XY)

You need a tweak for that behavior:
CTBNoRClickDefaultCommands=1

And when you want to use a shortcut, why don't you use a user defined command for it?

I appreciate your reply. I do not understand the meaning of it. XY is not my first language. :-)
Have never done scripts...
