Serious bug with create shortcut

Post by kiku »

Hello,

I've found the following issue with XYplorer 7.10 on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Browse to any folder and right click for the "New Shortcut..." option and create a shortcut for "calc.exe" for example.

You cannot finish the new shortcut creation because the "Finish" button in the end of the process does not work.

If you cancel and hit F5 to refresh the folder you get the error message "Currently not available" because the folder was renamed to calc.exe.lnk!!!

Anyway, great software. Keep up the good work!
Regards

Hi and Welcome to XY beta forum,
Create shortcut works fine here on Windows XP, XYplorer beta v7.10.0036.
Are you using latest beta (v7.10.0036)?
if not try: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... start=1155

does it work if you use the following for the shortcut path?

%windir%\system32\calc.exe

Hopefully the path is the same on vista...

Arrgh, looks like this is a Vista bug! See:
http://blogs.msdn.com/vistacompatteam/a ... -back.aspx

I added the workaround that is proposed on the site above -- let's see if it works. However, I feel not very good about using such dirty workarounds... I'll probably end up removing the whole function for Vista.

I don't use the new shortcut option much but I noticed the bug when creating a new shortcut in the "SendTo" folder and it got automatically renamed, so it can cause serious damage in your folder structure and you don't realise it.

Yeah, quite bad! As I said I will probably remove it.
