Drag to Command line
Drag to Command line
I am wondering if there is an option I am missing.
Normally in windows explorer if I need to register some dlls I drag them to the command line which dumps the full path etc. This works fine from XYplorer with one difference..
The cmd window functions a little differently when I use explorer because it will stay in front if I click and begin dragging the file from explorer. I cannot get XYplorer to mimic this functionality no matter what I do as soon as I click the file to drag the cmd window disappears to the background.
This isn't a wish, more a question of a an option I may be missing. I figure with all the programmer types around here this must have come up at some time.

I can't figure this one out either.
There are a lot of programs I use where you simply drag files onto another file to perform some action (file splitting, adding to a ZIP file, etc.). All I can get out of XYplorer in cases like this is the "you can't do that cursor" taunting me!
I also have the same problem you are describing when running XYplorer full-screen. If you have a smaller window up front that you want to drag a file to, you can't do it directly because XYplorer immediately takes focus as soon as you click.
The workaround is to drag the file to the taskbar and hover over the item you want to drag to until it regains focus, but that seems a bit kludgy.
I'm sure there's a setting somewhere that we have both overlooked.

On what types of files you cannot drop?Archibald wrote:There are a lot of programs I use where you simply drag files onto another file to perform some action (file splitting, adding to a ZIP file, etc.). What you describe is the only way to do it. I know that Explorer is different here, but I never found out how he does it.Archibald wrote:I also have the same problem you are describing when running XYplorer full-screen. Hmm, strange, I drop on EXE and ZIP files with XYplorer every day. Are you using an old version maybe?Archibald wrote:Dropping files onto a ZIP or RAR file to add them to the archive doesn't work.admin wrote:On what types of files you cannot drop?
Dropping files onto various command line tools doesn't work (ydec.exe, oggsplit.exe, mplayer.exe, etc...)

I have the trial v.7.10.0000 on my main machine, and I just put the latest beta v7.10.0030 on a machine that has never had XYplorer on it (just in case I mucked up the settings on the other one), and still no go with 100% default settings. Just the "circle with a line through it" cursor.admin wrote:Hmm, strange, I drop on EXE and ZIP files with XYplorer every day. Are you using an old version maybe?

Weird. The feature is in since ver 5.60 and works.Archibald wrote:I have the trial v.7.10.0000 on my main machine, and I just put the latest beta v7.10.0030 on a machine that has never had XYplorer on it (just in case I mucked up the settings on the other one), and still no go with 100% default settings. Can anybody reproduce a problem here?

To be sure we're talking about the same thing...
I don't mean dragging to an already opened ZIP window or an already opened command line.
I'm talking about dropping one file directly onto another FILENAME within XYplorer:

The above works fine in Explorer - the .OGG file would be split into chapters after it is dropped onto oggsplit.exe. IN XYplorer, the drop action is not allowed.

Hmmm, this should definitely work. Could it be related to Vista?? Come on Vista guys, don't tell me you cannot drop on an EXE file!?Archibald wrote:To be sure we're talking about the same thing...
