[Solved Using Tweak] Not Responding in Custom Copy (since v25.70.0101 - 2024-03-14 21:42)

hi! ever since updating past v25.70.0101 - 2024-03-14 21:42 i get "(Not Responding)" messages in the title bar on every single copy/move. the operation can be local to local, local to NAS and/or NAS to local, happens on all of them.

i am now on v25.70.0104 - 2024-03-16 10:44 and the problem persists. the copy/move does happen and complete successfully; however, the XYCopy displays this message in the titlebar and turns gray shortly after the operation starts :

rolling back prior to v25.70.0101 and i don't get the message. i didn't change any of my Custom Copy settings during any of the upgrades :

hi! when "Enable background processing" is unchecked i get the "Not Responding" in the main XY window (almost immediately after the operation starts) :

(plus the main XY window is completely whited-out until the operation has completed)

if i re-enable that setting, the "Not Responding" moves back to the XYCopy window and i can click around, browse, etc. in the main XY window without issue.

all workstations that are being used in the copy/moves have been fresh booted up this morning. here is the NAS monitor (and no errors reported in the Synology Event Viewer) :

the spike in the monitor was during a Robocopy and no XY testing was being performed.

hi! it's not noticeable on small files, e.g. <250mb or so, but anything larger it happens pretty quickly.
here are some Clipboard / Compact File Info file sizes that are doing it (one file per operation, not batched) from local to NAS and back again :

• 2,530,904,462 bytes

• 718,446,727 bytes

• 831,611,273 bytes

so as you see, not really major file sizes. i'll do some more testing with small, medium and large files, batched and not-batched and see if i can pick up some type of pattern.

OK, I saw it now. Looks like this little breakthrough was not so great after all. I'll improve it.

hi! i updated to the latest beta this morning and am still seeing the problem. i attempted to make a GIF to show you, hopefully it worked.

today (like normal was a fresh boot). yesterday i did some cleanup on the PC involving network settings in an attempt to help things out; however, these changes did not help.

• reset NIC to default Intel Proset settings

• removed VirtualBox, Hyper-V, WSL and v-Ethernet Switch, now just Ethernet LAN is connected (and only network entry)

this is a Local to Local "Copy to Other Pane" :

since it's a background job, i can still do things in the main XY window, just not sure why all of sudden i get the Not Responding. i have Preview turned off, no thumbnails at all, generic icons and am always in Detail View with only Tags and Labels as custom columns.

Yes, thanks for the report. I can see it too. The next beta changes the factory default:

    ! Custom Copy: The v25.70.0101 change still had some undesirable consequences 
      (unresponsive progress window). Fixed. Removed it completely from the factory 
      defaults (no change is made for upgraders). You can still tweak it (CustomCopyNoDoEvents).

You should set this tweak to 0 to make it go away:
CustomCopyNoDoEvents=0
