Try this in a fresh XYplorer instance:
- In Configuration > File Operations: Check Enable background processing
- Click Apply to... > Select Delete
- Apply the settings
- Create a new folder anywhere and select this folder in the tree
- Press Shift+Delete to permanently delete this folder
- Press Shift+Enter to confirm the Delete Folder dialog
XYplorer now opens 2 new tabs and the original tab still points to the deleted folder.

Why would you use Shift+Enter to confirm the delete?
Try just Enter and see if that changes it.

I have looked into this, but there is no really good way to fix it. Deleting the current folder triggers a change of location away from it, and holding SHIFT while the location changes means opening it in a new tab. That's the law in XY. So you better make your left hand faster.
