hi! i am running v24.90.0126 - 2023-09-15 13:33 and Git for Windows v2.42.0.windows.2.
in XY i have a dual pane setup with several locked tabs. one of those tab locations is my local repository. the git overlay is displayed and up until recently, now longer updates the status properly when switching to the tab. if i browse inside the folder and then back, the status is refreshed - just not when initially switching over to it.
tab is locked, not active, repository has modifications, tab is selected :
double-click the folder to go inside, go back and the icon is refreshed :
f5 doesn't refresh the icons.
any other git users notice this happening ? trying to find out if it's an XY or Git for Windows issue. so far it's only a visual issue. all the git context menus function as normal.
my git status cache setting has always been set to this, not sure if that has to change or what it would be set to :

Re: Shell Icon Overlay and Git
You can always try an earlier build of XY to see if something in XY made the difference.

Re: Shell Icon Overlay and Git
hi again! now i am running 25.40.0306 with Git for Windows v2.43.0.windows.1 and this issue still occurs.
any tips or CEAs that would help force the icon overlays to refresh ? as far as i can tell, this is the only troublesome one and the issue doesn't occur in default File Explorer, DO, etc.
prefer not to backtrack through the freezer, looking for any other workaround or solution.

Re: Shell Icon Overlay and Git
Interesting. F5 always refreshes the icon overlays, so there must be some kind of Windows caching going on that blocks the refresh from reality. And browsing inside the folder seems to trigger an update of that cache. I'll look into this.GreetingsFromPoland wrote: ↑16 Sep 2023 14:41 ... if i browse inside the folder and then back, the status is refreshed - just not when initially switching over to it.
It is fascinating how programmers today have to work like empirical researchers. The Windows environment has become a mysterious natural environment to be explored.

Re: Shell Icon Overlay and Git
Does this problem only affect icon overlays of folders?
