Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
After upgrading to the latest stable version (24.50.0200), I've found that when visiting some folders within my User profile folder in the List ('OneDrive' and 'iCloudDrive') they no longer display any icon in the tab. There's just a blank space on the tab where there would normally be a folder icon. In the tree there is no problem -- the icons are displayed correctly there.
Doesn't happen in fresh. I don't have any custom file icons enabled.
UPDATE with extra information:
It seems that it makes a difference how I browse to the folders. For example, if I access the folder starting from the root of the drive, e.g. C:\Users\Username\OneDrive then the icon is displayed on the tab. But if I click on the special entry for my username in the tree, and then double-click on OneDrive in the List, so the path in the address bar just shows Username\OneDrive then the icon is missing on the tab.
The same applies to all folders (even those I've pinned in the Catalog) which are using the short form of the path, e.g. Username\Music, Username\Pictures. None of them display the folder icon.
FURTHER UPDATE with screenshots from fresh instance:
In a fresh instance I can reproduce the problem, but it shows up on the breadcrumb bar instead. (In my main instance the problem happens on the tabs). Here are two screenshots where I'm accessing my Music folder using the long path and the short/special path. Notice how the folder icon is visible on the breadcrumb bar with the long path but missing with the short path.

Sure that this is not checked? Configuration | General | Refresh, Icons, History | Icons | Enable custom file icons

Re: Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
Like I said in the original post, custom file icons is not enabled. Also, I mentioned in my further updates that I can reproduce it in fresh. And then I posted screenshots from a fresh instance.
Re: Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
I've unpacked the last few portable versions to find out where the bug was introduced. In a fresh instance of 24.40.0200 the icon is displayed. And in 25.00 the icon is not.
So the bug was introduced somewhere between 24.40.0200 and 25.00.

There is no 25.00. I assume you mean 24.50. But nobody else reported it. And 24.50 is from 2023-06-06. So something rare must be happening on your system.

Sorry, I meant 24.50. The bug was introduced between 24.40.0200 and 24.50.
Re: Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
Do we need to wait for another user to try to access a folder using a short path, or do you think you can manage it? Can you post a screenshot of what your breadcrumb bar and tab header look like after clicking your username in the tree and then double-clicking on Music in the list. i.e. a screenshot of what you see when you access the special/short path of Username\Music

In the latest beta the exist command shows the shell icon. Try it (use your user name):
Code: Select all
exist "Donald\Music";

Re: Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
Where does that icon come from (it's non-standard)? Desktop.ini?

Re: Some folders no longer have icons on the tabs
It's the standard icon in Windows 11. I haven't customized anything. But the same issue applies for other folders within the user profile like OneDrive, iCloudDrive, etc. By the way, I've just figured out why in my main instance the icon is also missing from the tab header. It's got to do with locked tree. With a fresh instance if I enable Lock Tree, then the icon is missing on the tab header as well, just like my main instance (when the User Profile folder is collapsed in the tree).

This is the standard icon in Windows 11? Shocking.
Out of ideas at the moment.

FYI, these are the standard icons on Windows 11, as seen in File Explorer (I thought you had a Win 11 system??):
