Hi phred - I've got a very similar problem after changing my default PDF reader from Foxit to PDF-Xchange Viewer. Foxit had other issues and I'm reluctant to go back, and that may not be the actual problem since I changed other things too.

Rather than explain my symptoms and what I've tried, can you just say if you ever solved this; and if so what generally is your setup now?

Thx

It would probably be helpful to others who come across this thread if you explained the symptoms you're experiencing.

But yes, my issue is resolved. I can MDBU when left (or right) clicking on the PDF icon to the left of the filename. I resolved it by adding XChange PDF Preview Provider to User-Defined Preview Handlers and I still have FoxIt Reader installed which is called when double-clicking a PDF file.

Don't use PDF-Xchange Viewer, it's Discontinued.
PDF-XChange Editor in Free mode is what you want

I'm well aware of it being discontinued, thank you. But there's an expression that goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Since PDF-XChange Viewer works (and solved my initial issue) I'm going to stick with it. All I need it for is to preview files.

Unless of course, you can convince me that there are issues, security or otherwise, with the discontinued version.

I have multiple symptoms with PDFs, which change with every attempt to fix one. Over several days, as far as I can recall, I've tried
• Sumatra
• PDF X-change (multiple versions)
• NitroPDF demo
• Foxit Reader
• muPDF

With and without admin-level shortcuts
With various XY MDBU settings enabled or not
With and without XY file association set
With fresh XY or not
With and without Windows file associations set

I really hope this info will help others!!
