Thanks for Your response !

Well, a few points :

1. I am using XYplorer
as my ONLY file manager
since 2012,

2. I am using the operation I described
very very often ever since 2012
(e.g. to upgrade my portable softwares etc),
and ...

3. I can assure You that
the "disappearing address"
has started only about 2 months ago
or so (I don't quite remember),
I thought it was a newly introduced small bug
and I was waiting for a "fix".

Otherwise (if any of above 3 points were not so)
why would I be "complaining" about it only now ?

Well, if You do not have an answer handy,
is there any settings that can be tweaked ?

How about that script to add to
Custom Event Actions ?
To "fix" this address change behavior.
I do not know how to write such a script,
it might take You 15 seconds to write it.

Thanks a lot ! :D

Tested v23.00.0100 - 2022-04-08 20:00 ... same behavior as the current version.

Here is another theory: You changed some setting, e.g. you turned on Auto-Refresh. That's why I said above: try it with a fresh instance.

I tried a fresh instance,
brand new (= zero customizations),
and I have the same problem.

Disabling "Auto-Refresh"
also made no difference.

So, it is not any customizations
that caused this.

I also do not have any external
"automation" software, macros, etc.

And since it affects an INACTIVE tab,
external macros etc seem even more unlikely,
e.g. some other program "shooting"
keyboard shortcuts that XYplorer also uses.

Is there any keyboard shortcut that XYplorer
can assign for this (changing address) ?
Not for "Auto-Refresh" since we ruled that out.

I am still baffled by
how You can't reproduce this.
I wonder if there still might be
some miscommunication here.

I can reproduce it. My point it: It has always been like this since 2009, and I see no way to not reproduce it.

And you are right, it is not controlled by Auto-Refresh, that was a theory I should have tested before.

Oh, You are absolutely right !
You can "reproduce" it.

I am just baffled by
why I was not getting
this same effect (address redirect)
from 2012 till January 2023
but only now (so it appears as "change").

But whatever the explanation,
it there any way to stop these "redirects" ?
Some script to associate with
Custom Event Actions ?

Ha, I like Your sense of humor.

My thoughts are also back to the beginning :
exotic or not, DO YOU KNOW THE ANSWER ?

Since You have already spent so much time on this
(thanks, Danke, muchos gracias)
how about 15 more seconds to write down a script.

It is perfectly OK to say "I don't know",
don't blame it on me being "wired".

I am a physician, everyone expects me to know everything,
but I often say "I don't know", no shame in that.

I suppose You labeling something "exotic"
relates to further software development;
and here, You are absolutely right :!: :
if I am the only "complainer",
that is definitely not something to bother
software developers with.

I will sign off here & check once more later,
thanks again !

I go by the two-fools-rule: One fool is just a fool, but two fools sharing the same idea... take it serious, they might be geniuses.

So, find another person who is into outdated tabs. Good luck! :)

OK, so You are saying that
I am a fool who should
look for another fool
if I want to get somewhere
with this.

In Your place, I tend to follow
old fashioned modesty and say :
"I acknowledge Your issue,
I am not laughing it off,
but at this moment
I cannot think of a solution
or a work-around".
I find that this makes me
much more popular,
especially in a "service"
kind of activity.

Modesty IS one of the "Deutsche Tugenden" :
Bescheidenheit
Ehrlichkeit
Geradlinigkeit
Pflichtbewusstsein
Zurückhaltung ...

But  THANKS FOR YOUR TIME  anyways ("Fleiß"),
no big deal, I am signing off here.

I was not specifically talking about you. It's a general rule, and I did not invent it. I read it somewhere years ago. I think it makes a lot of sense.

"Deutsche Tugenden"? fuck'em :)

Wow !
Something quite bizarre happened :
for an unrelated reason I uninstalled
TeraCopy 3.9.7 from my system,
and installed the older 2.3.0 version of it,
and now I got the XYplorer's
"no address change" behavior
that I had before.
I prefer the TeraCopy 2.3.0 anyways
so this suits me fine.
I am totally mystified about how this works,
but I don't care.
