Deleting thumbs.db on a network drive.

Post by john3774 »

I'm using XYPlorer to navigate to a network drive. From there, I have deleted all the file out of a directory except: thumbs.db.

XYplorer won't let me delete that one: After trying it comes back with a "File in Use" message: " The action can't be completed because the file is open in XYplorer. "
To be fair, if I try this in Windows Explorer I get the same error message, but it's being held by Windows Explorer. I was hopoing XYPlorer would get around that.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Best regards,
John

Temporarily disabling icon thumbnails should mitigate it,

Win+R rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Options_RunDLL 7 (or go into OS Folder options via GUI)
Uncheck Display file icon on thumbnails
Check Always show icons, never thumbnails
Click on Apply, then OK.

Now try to delete the thumbs.db files (if you have open Windows File Explorer windows at the location, close them or switch to Details view), you can put settings back as they were originally again afterwards if you like.
