Windows is complex and idiosyncratic (meaning each system is a little different). There are countless possible reasons for a hang. To examine this much more information would be needed. Ultimately you have to find a reproducible pattern -- reproducible on your machine, and -- harder -- on my machine. It will be difficult because many more users would report it if it were a general problem. To me it looks rather like something specific to your system at the moment.

I believe I have been experiencing this for a while now too. I had previously chalked it up to a bad video card, thinking it had something to do with unlocking from screen saver/sleep, but I now realize that it was a similar behavior of the system becoming non-responsive shortly after activating XY. Sometimes there are a few seconds when the mouse cursor still moves, but then it locks up and has to be rebooted.
