Problem with naming new files or folders

Normally when creating a new file/folder I can directly type the name because the "rename mode" is already active. But sometimes XY switches the "rename mode" off directly after creating the new file/folder. Thank god this doesn't happen very often, but if it happens it is very annoying!
Sadly I have no idea how to reproduce it. Maybe it happens more often on network drives. I'm not sure...

EDIT: I'm having this problem for a longer time (some month). I always thought it might be a temporary problem...

Same here, it happens once in while but cant figure out when exactly. hmmm will keep an eye on that.

In my case always ctrl+n. It doesnt happen always like said before, only sometimes. It behaves as if I pressed ctrl+n and escape key (all in one go). No biggie this.

Could it be that it happens when you release the CTRL key before you release the N key? Or something similar? Not that I could reproduce it but finger mistakes can be a source of seemingly random errors...

hmmm not sure its that. because if i keep pressing n after releasing ctrl, i get the folder renamed "nnnnnn...". will keep an eye on that.

I'd think the opposite would be more likely (releasing n but Ctrl sticks) and then the first letter of the new name is triggering a hotkey (Ctrl + that letter) that you don't notice and causing it to exit rename mode.

Either way, it's not something that has affected me. *knocks on wood*

Are you using a cordless keyboard by any chance?
I had problems (in several applications) with what appeared to be sticking keys so I purchased a new cordless keyboard (newer model). Same results. It was suggested that it might be a problem with the cordless keyboard so I reverted to my older corded keyboard and have had no problems since. If you are a touch typist it seems that the response of cordless keyboards, possibly due to signal path conditions, are not as fast as they could be and hence it appears that keys "stick".

No, I use the regular keyboard. This problem has been there for a while now but its too small to notice and too rare to reproduce/understand.

- I release the "n" and then "ctrl" and then start typing the new name.
- It really happens very rarely, but it is very annoying.
- I'm sure that I haven't had this problem about a year ago.

Maybe it happens when you press Ctrl+N while the browsing of a very long list is not yet finished?

Maybe it also happens then. But it also happens if the folder contains just a few files/folders.

Do you use a wheel mouse? I do, and my mouse sometimes triggers a scroll command "by itself". This would close the rename box.
