UDC error.

Application "C:\Program Files\UltraEdit\uedit32.exe" WITHOUT THE QUOTES results in the error "Couldn't find application "C:\program" (also without quotes). This is using the browse button in the manage menu so it's not a user input problem. If the quotes are required (which they obviously are now) then the browse function should enter them. All my "Open with..." commands now need re-editing if quotes are required.

Oh yes, I did not think of this. Old user code is broken. What to do? I could make using parameters in UDC/Catalog optional. When turned OFF, then you can go on using filenames with blanks unquoted.

UPDATE: maybe better: I write upgrade-code that does the quoting where necessary!

Whatever you think best. It is fairly standard for names with spaces in to require quotes so I'm happy to add them. It was the fact that at some point things had changed, and I wasn't aware of any information indicating that it had been changed. If you can write code to accept either quoted or unquoted, then that would be even better.

As you say, quoting is standard for names with spaces. UDC is rather for power users anyway. Parameters as well. Also UDC is very new (official release only 2 days ago!). Also it only concerns Open With commands. Maybe I just forget about it...

You can remove your quotes again. I found in good solution in v6.50.0003 for the issue: quotes are only required if you use parameters.

Questions about this whole thing, because I've been quite busy lately and haven't had much time to look into this whole next thing (though it looks pretty cool!) but I recently upgraded to 6.50.0001 and... it's all broken :-(

When paths to app on my UDC had space in them, I just had to quote the path and add "<items>" after so that it works (otherwise item names are snd without quotes and when there was spaces in the items' names it didn't work anymore)

So that's "fixed", but my Catalog is still broken when spaces are in the path (to file, app or documents, with Open on click). Without quotes nothing happens, the app doesn't start & I get no message of any kind.

So I tried quoting it, but then the icon is gone and still nothing happens. Will that be fixed in 0003 ? And then, when does this baby comes out ?

hehe... ok, so I'm looking at all the new power we got on Catalog & UDC, and I have to tell you : it looks pretty fantastic

I wish we could create our own menu on UDC, to better sort things, but I've already "recreated" the WinRAR's features (Extract, Extract to Separate Folders, ...) thanks to UDC, so now I can either popup a menu which, unlike the shell one in items, shows up immediately, or even start the extraction with one KS !! That's just so cool!

And now I can do that from Catalog too !!
Although, I had already noticed that for "Open" items, I'd like it if when I click any item on Catalog, the list would get focused once done. Right now only "Go to" items do that -- I have SetFocusToListAfterCatalog=1

BTW all items that were VF on Catalog were set as "Open" instead of "Go to".



I've noticed something I consider a bug though : when using single instance, <items> shoud be used and they are quoted, while with multi-instance they're not, unless I quote it myself: "<items>"
That's pretty confusing, especially when testing behaviors of some app, to have to remember about that & change it each time, etc.

VF on Catalog were set as "Open" : oops, thanks... I had to do some internal conversions in the catalog (went up from ver 2 to 3 )... nobody should have noted it but I made this little mistake. Too late for you but I'll correct that in the next version.

- Also, registered app only works for "Open With", how about for "Open" as well ?

- UDC: Application field supports auto-complete path, but not when quoted (which can be required), could it be supported ?

- UDC: when the "Target" field (Location, App, etc) is focused, Esc does nothing!

- Catalog: how about adding Move To, Copy To, Rename, ... as supported actions too ?

- Catalog: "?:\Program Files\App.exe" gets the Find icon (for Name Search) instead of the app's icon ("..\App.exe" works fine)

- UDC feedback on statusbar : it's nice, but I'm not sure I like it. Because for some operations (eg. Rename) it means the operation feedback gets overwritten/lost, and it might matter (more) (eg. to know how many items actually got renamed)

Nope, impossible...

Unfortunately necessary because of auto-complete path. Else the ESC to close the drop-down will also close the dialog. There might a way out using subclassing but I did not bother...

Not worth the pain. Scripting will make everything possible anyway...

Yeah, those should not be quoted of course. And it probably doesn't harm that way, I just thought maybe <items> should behave as all the others (including the app's path/name) instead of being an exception.

Oh, just to be clear : I do like the UDC feedback, what I don't so much is the one coming after and as such removing the command's feedback.

But that I get some feedback for all other UDCs, that I really do like!
