Open search result location on double click
Open search result location on double click
Hi,
If I do a file search and then double click the path of a search result, XY interprets this as double clicking the background and opens the parent folder. For example, double clicking "Data" in the search below opens the parent folder of the location XY is installed in, and not the expected Data folder:
Is there a way to make it behave similarly to Everything's "open path with double click in path column" option?
Thanks.

Re: Open search result location on double click
No not currently, as an alternative you can middle click the file/folder in the list (not the path column) to open the folder though, it's controlled by these settings (default is enabled anyway):
Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Safety | Mouse | Middle-click goes to file in new tab
Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Safety | Mouse | Middle-click opens folder in new tab

Re: Open search result location on double click
I'll try to make this double-click happen. In the meantime you can use this:
Code: Select all
v19.60.0004 - 2019-02-01 17:47
+ List | Path Column | Cell Context Menu: The Cell Context Menu (hold CTRL
and right-click a non-empty cell; or "Rocker-Click") of the Path column
now features the command "Open in New Tab". Does what it says: Open the
right-clicked path in a new tab.

Thanks both of you. These alternatives will work for now.

Next beta has the double-click. Cool feature.

It was added before I could even try out the other options, nice!
One small suggestion: it would be perfect if it automatically selected the chosen file in the new location, just like the middle click on the file name.

Re: Open search result location on double click
I could do that, but is it the expected behavior when double-clicking into the path column?

Re: Open search result location on double click
I can't speak for all users of course, but it is the expected behavior for me. Two reasons for it:
1. It is the behavior of other software like Everything and Firefox when opening a path.
2. Often when I open a file's path it is because I want to work with that file in its own location. If the folder contains many files, automatically selecting the file lets me avoid looking for it a second time (for example by typing part of its name).

But isn't it already covered by this?

Re: Open search result location on double click
It's true that the middle click has the behavior I want. The only issue for me is that it is inconvenient or impossible to middle click on some laptop touch pads (including mine). Having the functionality accessible by a double click as well solves that problem.
I think it would save time more often than not, but if most users do not want it then the behavior can be left as is.

Yes, thought about it and think so, too, now. Next beta...xyuser123 wrote: ↑19 Feb 2019 18:40 It's true that the middle click has the behavior I want.
