I assume this will not change until XY becomes multi-threaded or am I wrong with that assumption?

Pretty much EVERY Windows application is multi-threaded! Xyplorer is of course already heavily multi-threaded else you couldn't do anything fast.
If you are wondering, just check with Task Manager (turn on the 'threads' column). You'll see many threads (in my case currently 11).
