Accessing network folders is very slow

Post by zBernie »

If I access my Synology NAS in Windows File Explorer using the path \\DS418, it displays the folders instantly. If I attempt to access \\DS418 in XYplorer 19.00, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds, or just hangs sometimes. When access \\DS418 there is a message at the bottom of the bottom saying "Enumerating over servers on network", or something similar.

Are there any settings in XYplorer I can tweak to get better network speeds?

Try changing the setting of this:
Configuration | General | Controls and More | Network | Fast network enumeration

There is no "Fast network enumeration" setting. Here's a screenshot of available options under "Network". I tried checking "Assume servers are available", but its still slow accessing \\DS418.

Upgrading did give me the option for fast enumeration. But it still takes about 30 seconds to display the folders when I enter \\DS418. Bummer.

Try to untick that option.

Same thing with the all the Network options unticked. It says "Enumerating over servers" at the bottom. In the title bar it says "Not responding". Then after about 30 seconds it displays the folders in \\DS418.

Is there a log file or debug mode that could be enabled?

1) Is that happening when you access that path the first time, or each time?

2) How do you access that path? Tree, Address Bar...? Please describe it exactly.

3) Is only this path affected?

4) Which Windows version is that?

Thanks for this tip.
I unticked all the network options and tataaaa my XY startup time is suddenly back to a lightning fast 1 sec (down from an annoyingly slow 30 sec).
Is there any plausible explanation for this? According to the wording of these options, enabling them should speed things up not slow them down.

As for accessing folders on a Synology NAS (mine is a DS213) I never had any speed problems when accessing mapped drives that point to it.
Maybe an antivirus problem?

It did speed them up before Win10. Now it seems to do the opposite. These are empirical facts. Of course, there's nothing documented by MS. Win10, the big silence...

1. First time, about 30 seconds to access \\DS418. Restarted XYplorer, again took 30 seconds. Opened a new tab after accessing \\DS418, and it accessed it immediately.

2. Yes, I am typing in \\DS418 in the address bar. I also tried making \\DS418 a favorites folder, same slowness.

3. It is the only path affected that I'm aware of.

4. Windows 10 64 bit Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134

Try to add that path here: Tools | List Management | Servers in Network Folder...
ServersInNetworkFolder2.png
ServersInNetworkFolder2.png (10.53 KiB) Viewed 4011 times
Then tick this: Configuration | General | Controls and More | Network | Cache network servers

Now that folder will always be available in the Network node of the tree.

For some reason, Tools | List Management | Servers in Network Folder... is disabled. It was also disabled on another computer I checked with XYplorer. Any idea why it is disabled?

-Thanks
